With the analysis of high molecular weight glutenin subunits (11MW-CS) of 121 Gansu-grown spring wheat cultivars (included local varieties, introduced varieties and bred varieties) and gliadin band types of 110 spring wheat cultivars, Compositions. allelic variation and frequencies of 1-1MW glutenin subunits and ~liadin fingerprinting were studied.On the basis of HMW-GS SDS -PAGE gliadin A-PAGE, the results were obtained as follows: 1 .1-ugh-molecular-weight glutenin subunit (I-IMW-GS) compositions of 121 spring wheat varieties in Gansu were determined by sodium dodeeyl sulphate polyactylamide gel electrophoresis (SDS- PAGE).The result showed that these spring wheat varieties had plentiful HMW-GS types.Glu-A1 encoded three subunits of 1 ,2*and null; Glu-B1 encoded seven subunits of 7+8, 7+9, 17+18. 22, 7, 8, 14?5; Glu-D1 encoded eight subunits of 2+12, 2?1, 5+10, 2+10, 10, 4?1, 3+12,Null. 2.There were three major allelic variants at Glu- I loci in spring wheat cultivars in Gansu, Glu-Alc [null(8 1.0%)], Glu-B lb [7+8 3 (86.0%)], Glu-Dla [2+ 12 (60.0%)], respectively. HIMW-GS type of all these spring wheat cultivars was in the majority of N,7?,2+ 12. 3 .HMW-GS types of Gansu-grown bred wheat varieties were increasing, especially the HMW-GS compositions related with good bread-making quality. Good subunit composition 1,7+8,5+10 had a high frequency in new released varieties, such as Ganchun 20,Ganmai 42 and Wuchun 2 etc. Compared with bred varieties, local varieties also had some good subunits 1, 7+8, 17+18, 5+10, 14+ 15. Therefore, in the field of quality improvement for wheat, breeders should explore and utilize local varieties, and make use of good subunits from local varieties, which would provide material basis for quality improvement. 4.The standard gliadin fingerprints database of 110 accessions was made by using the ISTA standard A-PAGE method. 5.Using the standard gliadin fingerprints database. genetic diversity of 110 accessions was studied. Alleles of gliadin were found, which showed high genetic diversity within gliadin fingerprints.
