The effects of Plant Growth Nutrient Solution (PGNS) combined with Plant Growth Regulators (PGRs) composed in Seed Science Lab in seed film coating on rice seeds were studied in salt stress condition using paper substrate in laboratory. The effects of PGNS in seed film coating were also observed in soil germination in laboratory and field experiment in late season rice. The physiological and biochemical changes of rice seedling were conducted after seed priming with inorganic salts. The responses of early season rice and single-harvest late season rice to different seed film coating agents composed by Seed Science Lab. and matrix priming with sand (MPS) were investigated. Two rice cultivars (Jiayu 948 and Zhongzu No.l) and a hybrid rice cultivar (II You 3027) were used in these experiments. Main results obtained are as follows:When seeds were film coated with PGNS, a significant restraint of shoot growth and a significant reduction of germination index and amylase activity were observed in laboratorial experiment. But the harm of salt stress to rice was decreased by PGNS in seed film coating. The catalase (CAT) activity and proline (Pro) content of Jiayu 948 seedling were increased in both control and salt stress conditions using paper substrate. The peroxidase (POD) activity was also enhanced when germinated in soil in normal condition or under salt stress condition in paper substrate. However, the CAT activity in normal condition and the POD activity in salt stress condition were decreased in II You 3027, which was not agree with the result in Jiayu 948. Pro content in II You 3027 seedling was significantly increased that was the same as in Jiayu 948. In soil germination experiment, although germination percentage was reduced, the properties of Jiayu 948 seedling were improved significantly. That the shoots were shorter and stronger, the leaves were more green were observed. Dry weight of shoots, dry weight of basal shoots, dry weight of leaf per unit area, chlorophyl content, dry weight of roots, number of roots and the ratio of root to shoot were increased obviously. There was a trend that the combined PGRs in seed film coating shortened the seedling. The amylase activities were decreased by the combined PGRs. But the POD activity and CAT activity were improved in control condition. There was a trend that seed priming shortened the seedling. Shoot high, dry weight per seedling and amylase activity were significantly decreased through seed priming with inorganic salt. But POD activity and rootage dehydrogenase activity were enhanced, especially in salt stress condition, germination index, root length, amylase activity, POD activity and rootage dehydrogenase were significantly increased after seed priming with inorganic salt. It indicated that seed priming with inorganic salt would increase the ability of anti-stress.In early season rice and single-harvest late season rice experiment, there was a trend that seedling emergence, tiller number, shoot dry weight, number of effective spike and yield can be improved by seed film coating composed by Seed Science Lab. Yield of early season rice in two experimental sites and single-harvest late season rice were increased. In early season rice experiment, the seed film coating agent No. 4 had the best effect that increased the yield by 15.8%.The seedling emergence and the number of effective spike are significantly increased by MPS treatment. However, the number of seeds per spike was reduced. Yields of MPS treatment were significantly higher than that of the pregermination treatment in early season rice experiment and than that of the pre-soaking treatment and direct-sowing control in single-harvest late season rice experiment. There was a significant interaction between MPS treatment and cultivars. MPS treatment improved yield more effective in Jiayu 948 than in Zhongzu No.l.
