The present paper deal with the ?structures of Inner Mongolian sheep's carotid body by naked eye and histological methods. Carotid body is a chemical receptor to the carotid blood stream. In Inner Mongolian Sheep, it was located in the loose connective tissue near the blood vessel wall of the end of carotid artery or between the branches of this artery. The carotid body was a flat little body which hardly be seen by naked eyes. It received the sinus nerve, the direct branches of cervical vagus nerve, the branch of recurrent laryngeal nerve and the fibers from cranial cervical ganglion of sympathetic nerve system. The microscopic observation showed that the carotid body was covered by thick layer of loose connective tissue. The parenchyma was composed with several lobules, maximally 4? lobules were seen in a section. Each lobules could be seen including 3 ?5 glomus maximally in a section. Each glomus contented mostly type I glomus cells and a few of type II glomus cells. The Type I cell located in the peripheral part of the glomus with typically round nucleus , abounding cytoplasmic and round shape. The mean size was about 4.9X5.3H m .some of these cells with clear nucleus named light cells and some with obscure nucleus named dark cells. The type II cell spread around type I cells and th.e boundary of glomus, with flat, slim and long shape, and was short of cytoplasmic, The mean size of type II cell was about 2.5X12.6 u m. Except type I and type II cell, there were also entrance blood vessels, interstitial cells and ganglion cell in the glomus.
