For sewage sludge compost contends quite a lot of organic matter and plant nutrient, few of pest and fungi, its utilization as agricultural resource showed great potential in economic profit and environmental protection. The former researchers have described that it was more feasible that sewage sludge was used in soilless culture of ornamental plant. However, lack of experience on this limited the application of sewage sludge compost for ornamental plant in our country. This paper focus on the physical and chemical character of sewage sludge compost and the effect of sewage sludge compost on the development and nutrient absorption and heavy metals accumulation of gerbera. Its aim is to resolve some problem in the utilization of sewage sludge compost in theory.Sewage sludge compost was mixed with sand and pearl in proportion as plant substrate of gerbera in this experiment. The effect of sludge compost on growth and development of gerbera was searched, the result showed that the best formulas of substrate for gerbera consisted of 50% sewage sludge compost+20% sand+30% pearl or 60% sludge compost+20% sand+20% pearl. The result of study on physical and chemical properties of sewage sludge compost showed that sewage sludge compost contended plenty of organic matter and plant nutrient, its CEC and PH is fit to plant growth, but its EC and content of heavy metals were too high for plant growth.Rules on nutrient absorption and distribution of gerbera were studied in this paper. The absorption of N, P, K, Ca, Mg by gerbera follows the model of "Logistic" equation. Varying with the growth stage, the absorption proportion of N, P, K, Ca, Mg by gerbera is 5.9:2.0:8.5:4.8:1 in its whole life cycle. In every growth stage, the amount of N, K, Ca, Mg in the leaf is the highest and that of P in the flower is highest .The nutrient absorbed by gerbera is distributed mainly to the growth center of the plant in its life which is the root in the seedling stage, which is the leaf in the nutrient growth stage and which is the flower in the budding and blossoming stage. In this paper, the effectiveness of media consisting of sewage sludge compost on the growth and nutrient absorption of gerbera was studied. The author proposed that sewage sludge compost media was able to supply amply Ca, Mg and nutrient microelement. In addition, heavy metals mainly accumulated in the root of gerbera, and the different of content of heavy metal in root and leaf was unremarkable.
