The research on time budget and allogrooming in captive of Presbytis francoisi was carried out from March,2001 to February,2002 in Fushui Rare Animal Protection Station,Fushui county,in the south of Guangxi and Reproductive Center of Primate in Naining Zoo. The Focus Animal Sampling and Continuous Recording were used in studying the daily activity rhythm and time budget The inferior and environmental factors which caused the time budget of the population were discussed, which promoted understanding about the behavioural ecology of Presbytis francoisi and provided theoretical foundation for conservation. By studying on allogrooming in captive Presbytis francoisi ,in which All Occurrences Sampling and Sociometric Matrix Completion were used,The social significance of allogrooming and some social relations in polyandry were discussed. The main results were as following:1. The daily activity rhythm of out-cave was consisted of 8 parts. Resting had 60.50%-85.46% of time budget,75.35% on average, feeding occupied 10.37%-28.46% of time budget,15.23% on average, and moving only had 633%-11.03% of time budget,8.37% on average, there was a sun-bathing activity in spring and winter which owned 6.75%-7.44%.2. The daily time budget had regulation of season change which appearing as resting decreasing, moving and feeding increasing,sun-bathing gradually occurring from summer though autumn to winter.3. There was significant difference in time budget,in which the amount of time of infant spent in moving was more than that of male and female, and the feeding time of female was more than that of male and infant. The male spent 95.5% of grooming time for himself and 0.5% for allogrooming, while female spent 58.5% for herself,41.5% for others monkeys.4. A total of 663 grooming bouts were recorded during the study period. Of these ,394 bouts (59.4%) were initiated by groomers,269 bouts (40.6%) by groomees. 535 bouts (80.7%) of grooming termination were contributed to groomers,128 bouts (19.3%) to groomees. The results showed that allogrooming was mainly initiated and maintained by groomers.5. The six parts of the body surface groomed were scored a total of 1056 times,256 times (24.2%) of which were for head,123 times (11.6%) for breast and abdomen,36 times (3.4%) for arms,89 times (8.4%) for legs and tail,301 times (28.5%) for back,251 times (23.8%) for rump. There was not a significant difference between the accessible parts, including head, breast and abdomen, arms, legs and tail, and the inaccessible ones, including back and rump, which showed that the grooming behavour had certain profound social and biological significance.6. The order of grooming given by each individual in cage was#3F#4F#2F#lM#5J;grooming received:#4F>#1M>#3F>#2F#5J (Chisquare,d.f.=l,""P<0.05,">"n.s.) . The analysis of matrices of frequencies of grooming of individuals in cage showed that the occurrence and distribution of grooming were closely related with social organization, dominance hierarchy, blood relationship and physiology.
