Metabolism of hydrogen peroxide Castor Silkworm was studied in this theme. Level of Hydrogen peroxide and activities of superoxide dismutase (SOD) and catalase (CAT) were determinate with spectra photography and oxygen electrode,respectively.In the stage of embryonic development,activity of SOD increased and then undulated at high level after 144h-egg stage. Level of hydrogen peroxide and activity of CAT quickly increased in the latter embryo development. Activity of CAT dramatically in enhanced before hatching and was as over 400 times as that of the beginning development.In the larval stage,level of hydrogen and activity of SOD always decreased and activity of SOD in 5th instars decreased to the percent of 15 in 1st instars. Activity of CAT decreased before 3rd instars and then increased in 5th instars. In the same instars except 5th instars,level of hydrogen peroxide and activity of CAT increased from new molted larvae and' reached the top from gluttonous stage to molting stage and then decreased after molting. In the 5th instars,activity of CAT was much low in gluttonous stage. Activity of SOD was the top in new molted larvae but quickly decreased after eating mulberry leaves;it increased again from gluttonous stage to molting but decreased after molting.In the spinning stage,hydrogen peroxide fast decreased but increased before pupation. Activity of CAT almost kept at the level of the begin spinning. Activity of SOD significantly increased but slowly decreased and kept at high level after end spinning.In the pupae stage,level of hydrogen peroxide decreased and thermally agitated from 3rd day to 5th day. Activities of SOD and CAT were higher and there were significant differences between male and female pupa. In the period,pupae were stored at 5 C. Level of hydrogen peroxide and activities of SOD and CAT progressively decreased in 30 days,but differently changed after 30 days. Those also changed differently between male and female pupa. It is the presentation time of chilling storage.Coinciding the aging of moth of Castor Silkworm,level of hydrogen peroxide slowly increased but activities of SOD and CAT gently decreased in female moth. Those of male changed differently.During the whole generation of Castor Silkworm,metabolism of hydrogen peroxide was almost similar to Bombyx silkworm. But the metabolic capability of hydrogen peroxide was stronger. It is the physiological adoption of the high intrabiotic in Castor Silkworm.
