This paper studied the characteristics of the Yugoslavia maize germplasms and their direct and indirect utilization through the introduced 33 Yugoslavia hybrids, 9 inbred lines, 10 inbred lines from 5 elite Yugoslavia hybrids ,14 lines from 478×three introduced Yugoslavia inbred lines ,8 lines from Yugoslavia inbred lines ZP256×three Chinese inbred lines and their 211 testcrosses with Chinese elite inbred lines belonging to different heterotic groups .The result showed that:(l) The 33 Yugoslavia hybrids had little direct utilization value in Henan province, but the ear length of some hybrids had potential value in breeding;(2) The GCA,SCA of the 10 generation inbred lines were different significantly .The GCA of 801-2-1-1,805-1-1-1 was significantly positive and thus more elite crosses could be made with them. The per-plant yield of the 7 testcrosses 801-2-1-1 xGAI3,xYU374, 810-2-l-lxGAI3,xYU87 -l,805-l-3-lxS478,YU87-l,805-l-l-lxGAI3 was higher significantly than check by 6.31%-27.11%;(3) 9 Yugoslavia lines were divided into 5 heterotic groups .9809 was classified individually to Reid heterotic group definitely.lt had great genetic differences with other inbred lines, and had higher direct utilization value in breeding .The per-plant yield of 9809xS22,9809xCHANG7-2 was higher significantly than check by 41.56%,9.32% individually. The combining abilities of the other inbred lines and their heterosis were much complicated. Thus it was difficult to evaluate their germplasm relationships with Chinese inbred lines;(4) Yugoslavia inbred lines had higher indirect utilization value in breeding .In the 22 generation lines from 478×three introduced inbred lines and ZP256×three Chinese inbred lines, the GCAs of 5 lines wassignificantly positive and had great value in breeding. The per -plant yield of 21 crosses was higher significantly than check by 3.85%-33.28% in the 88 testcrosses.
