To control schistosomiasis,grazing management of grass-feeding livestock on the lake-islet and correlated technology of controlling schistosomiasis were studied in Dongting lake region. According to different zones-,ranges and observation objects in the lake region,experimental areas were selected. Systematic grazing management and technical measures were taken in pilot area,and routine measures taken in control area. The results were as follows.1. Studies on grazing management of cattle in the large cattle production farmer and controlling schistosomiasis:The cattle infection rate in pilot area reduced from 41.67% to 3.70%. The density of infected snails on the lake-islet outside embankment reduced from 0.0207/0.11 m2 to 0.0153/0.11 m2. The infected snail rate from 3.44% dropped to 2.83%. The resident infection rate dropped from 15.24% to 7.28%. In control area,the cattle infection rate decreased from 52.78% to 34.00%. The density of infected snails on the lake-islet outside embankment reduced from 0.0168/0.11 m2 to 0.0116/0.11 m2,the infected snail rate went down from 1.63% to 1.37%,the resident infection rate went down from 15.18% to 8.65%.2. Studies on grazing management of cattle in the village and controlling schistosomiasis:The cattle infection rate in pilot area went down from 12.5% to 3.50%. The density of infected snails went down from 0.0050/0.11 m2 to 0.00398/0.11 m2;the infected snail rate dropped from 0.0677% to 0.0484%;the resident infection rate went down from 14.66% to 10.29%. In control area,the cattle infection rate went down from 12.90% to 9.28 %. The density of infected snails went down from 0.0041/0.11 m2 to 0.0040/0.11 m2,the infected snails rate went down from 0.0673% to 0.0503 %. The resident infection rate went down from 13.56% to 10.19%.3. Studies on grazing management of cattle in the lake-islet and controlling schistosomiasis:The cattle infection rate in pilot area went down from 7.39% to 3.07%;the density of infected snailson the lake-islet outside embankment went down from 0.006 /O.llm2 to 0.0013 70.11 m2,the infected snail rate went down from 0.47% to 0.11%. The resident infection rate went down from 11.30% to 5.23%. In pilot area II,the cattle infection rate dropped from 13.71% to 3.82%;The density of infected snails on the lake-islet outside embankment dropped from 0.0044/0.11 m2 to 0.0016 70.11 m2,the infected snail rate dropped from 0.88% to 0.18%,the resident infection rate dropped from 10.73% to 6.07%;In control area:the cattle infection rate dropped from 9.55% to 8.25%,the density of infected snails on the lake-islet outside embankment ropped from 0.0057/0.11 m2 to 0.0047/0.11 m2,the infected snail rate dropped from 0.48% to 0.36%,the resident infection rate dropped from 12.48% to 10.88%.The results show that:In the control of cattle schistosomiasis infection rate,significant results are obtained in there sorts of pilot area. But pilot III is the best in decreasing of lake-islet contamination and infected snail rate,as a effective measure of controlling schistosomiasis in marshland.
