Research Report On The Grass-livestock Balance In Lijiang City

Nowadays, with the development of social economy, some problem have beenemerged which including environment protection, food security and resource recyclingutilization and the sustainable development. As the important production base of animalhusbandry and the important ecological defense, the grassland was degraded seriouslybecause of the long-term unreasonable utilization and overgrazing. And grassland animalhusbandry is the dominant industry and the main economic source of farmers in grazingdistrict, which play an important role in the development of local economy and farmers’poverty alleviation. In order to development the grassland animal husbandry, the pressureof grassland can become more and more. The grass-livestock balance is not only bearingthe production and framers’ living, and also bearing the ecological environment, whichaffected the social stability and social harmonious development. Therefore, it is urgentneed to total understanding the status of the grass-livestock balance in grazing district torelief the production pressure of grassland and control the quantity of grazing animal.Base on the above background, the study chose the county of yulong, yongsheng,huaping and ningliang and the ancient town as the research district in Lijiang city toconduct the survey of grass-livestock balance. The study chose the spot research,household survey and conducting focus group seminars with farmers to investigate thegrassland, forage supply, livestock raising and animal husbandry production and analyzethe problem on the grass-livestock balance. Base on the existing the problem, we proposedsome corresponding measures to consult the grass-livestock conflict. The result showedthat:1) The actual annual hay yield in Lijiang city was1.458billion ton, which can be raising2.2186billion sheep unit of maximum grazing capacity. However, the actualraising livestock quantity was2.9717billion sheep unit, which was more than themaximum grazing capacity that the overgrazing livestock quantity of0.7531billion sheepunit.2) The total overgrazing rate was33.9%in Lijiang city. The survey spot of the ancienttown, yulong county, yongsheng county, ningliang county and huaping county were12.5%,21.0%,37.53%,39.48%and40.50%,separately.3）Because the overgrazing rate of each survey spot in Lijiang city was inconsistent,we should as soon as possible make the plan on grassland development and protection,confirm the relevant grassland reward policy, conduct the regime of rotational grazing andgrazing inhibition. And in order to provide the grassland an opportunity to rest, keep itsproduction stability, play its function and establish a firm foundation to benefit to animalhusbandry development and farmers’ income, it is urgent to accelerate the livestockturnover period, increase the livestock slaughter rate, adjust the grazing rate.
