This paper deals with the basic properties and taxonomic classification of the typical soil in the southern region in Henan province, which influenced by the warm and moist monsoon climate. The soil and plant of the region belong to transitional type between the northern and southern region in china, and have obvious region character. Because Chinese soil taxonomy develop comparatively late, the soil classification status of the region often change. Through looking into the relevant material, spot investigation, the analysis of the nine typical soil samples, and combining together the result of predecessors, by means of new taxonomical principle and method of "Chinese Soil Taxonomy (Revised proposal)"(1995), the complete soil taxonomic classification of the nine soil sample were obtained. The relevant soil diagnostic horizon are: Molic epipedon, Ochric epipedon, Albic horizon, Cambic horizon, Argic horizon, Claypan horizon; the relevant soil diagnostic character are: Vertic feature and Vertic evidence, (Udic and Stagnic) soil moisture regime, (Theric) soil temperature regime, Ferric property, Calaric property, Base saturation, Redox features. The high category classification of the nine typical soils respectively could be allocated in Luvisols, Vertisots a^d Cambisols. On the basis of obtained data, the high categoryclassification status of "ST (1994)", "FAO-UNESCO (1990)", and "Chinese Soil Category Classification System (1987)" were analyzed, and the high category classification reference were get accordingly. In the research of low category classification study which have something to do with agriculture produce, this paper study on the classification of soil family and soil series. Especially on the soil series classification, the paper put forth some characteristic soil horizon, use their properties, their arrange in order and so on as identifying criteria. On the basis of classify soil series, the integrity soil series description were get as the reference of Database and Soil information system.
