Seventeen wild species of strawberry including F. nilgerrensis Schidl, F. orientalis Lozinsk, F. pentaphylla Lozinsk, F. virginiana Duch, F. gracilis A.Los, F. vividis Duch, F. vesca L.and F. mandschurica Staudt and forty one species were studied using RAPD in order to clarify the relationship among them. Amplification reactions were carried out in 15ul mixture containing 0.75 units TaqDNA polymerase, 0.2mM dNTPs, 2.5mM Mg2+, 0.67mM primer and 30ng template DNA. The results were scored as present (1) or absent (0). A similarity matrix and a genetic distance matrix were obtained using the software NTSYS-2.10e and the similarity matrix was subjected to a cluster analysis using the UPGMA method producing the dendrogram of the wild species and varieties of strawberry. And a DNA fingerprinting table of the species of strawberry was constructed based on these results. The seventeen wild species of strawberry were divided into eight clusters. The relationship between F .nilgerrensis Schidl and F. vesca L. is nearest, followed by F. pentaphylla Lozinsk, F. gracilis A.Los and F. virginiana Duch. The wild species of strawberry Xiaobaiguo, Dabaiguo and Gansu NO.5 were confirmed as: Xiaobaiguo and Gansu NO.5 belong to F .pentaphylla Lozinsk, dabaiguo belong to F. gracilis A.Los. And at the same time, the fact was confirmed that F. mandschurica Staudt is different from F. vesca L, and the F. mandschurica Staudt has nearer relationship with F. orientalis Lozinsk, which indicated that F. mandschurica Staudt subject to its independent in cluster. The result gained from the genetic distance and clustering by studying seventeen wild species and forty one varieties of strawberry and the DNA fingerprinting table of the species of strawberry will give us a powerful theoretic warranty.A evolvement route of strawberry was presumed as: F. nilgerrensis Schidl→F. vesca L.→F. pentaphylla Lozinsk→F. gracilis A.Los→F. virginiana Duch. →F.ananassa Duch, and F. vesca L.→F. mandschurica Staudt→F. orientalis Lozinsk that would be as an embranchment.
