The biological, ecological characters and artificial diet of Chondracris rosea rosea(De Oeer) have been studied through the objiects of Chondracri.s rosea rosea. The results are as follow:1. Chondracris rosea rosea happens one generation in Wuhan every year. The eggs of Chondracris rosea rosea survive the winter. The developmental period of eggs is from middle of September to middle of June in next year. The period of larval is from middle of May to middle of August. The period of adult is from the first ten days of August to the last ten days of October. The edibles that Chondracris rosea rosea are addicted are follow: The first is broad bean. The second is cotton. The last is pakchoi.2. The developmental rate of eggs and nymph increased according to the rise of temperature under condition of constant temperature, tanged from 25 to 34 in laboratory. By using the linear regression method, the threshold temperatures for egg, the 1st to the 6th instar of nymph and the whole nymph stage were estimated to be 13.56 , 19.04 ,21.28 , 20.03 ,20 , 19.93 , 17.02 , 19.78 respectively, and the effective accumulative temperatures for these stages were assessed as 662.01, 87.48, 59.65, 70.41, 76.96, 86.41,178.61, 513.19 day-degree, respectively.3. Chondracris rosea rosea needs different combinations of temperature and water-content in soil under different developmental period. The results are presented as following: Chondracris rosea rosea grow well in the temperature of 31 ~34 and the water-content in soil of 12%. The combinations of 34 , 12 % are optimal for the duration of development of 1-6 instars larvae. The developmental rate are 0. 1456, 0. 1905, 0. 1923, 0. 1875, 0. 1667, 0.0924 respectively. The combinations of 34 , 12 % are optimal for the duration of development of egg, The growth rate is 0.0346 and the hatchability is 95%.4. The combinations of different temperatures, water-content in soil and illumination time have evident effect on the survival rate and weight of Chondracris rosea rosea. The results are presented as following: The combinations of 30 , 12 %, 16 h and 25 , 12 %, 12 h were optimal for the survival rate of 1-6 instars larvae which are 77. 8%, 83%, 84.4%, 93.8%, 100%, 100% and 81. 1%, 91.8%, 88.3%, 91.6%, 100%, 100%. The combination of 30 , 12 %, 16 h are optimal for the weight of 1-6 instars larvae which are 0. 068g, 0. 148g, 0. 309g, 0. 675g, 1.254g, 2. 016g.5. The combinations of different refrigeration temperatures and refrigeration time have evident effect on the hatchability of egg of Chondracris rosea rosea. The combinations of 4 , 10 d and 8 , 10 d are optimal for the hatchability of egg. The hatchability ofegg is 92% in these condition. While the hatchability of egg is only 20% if the eggs are not refrigerated.6. The functional and artificial diet which were compounded in the laboratory have evident effect on the development and propagation of Chondracris rosea rosea. There exist extremely evident difference in the weight of the fifth and sixth instars larvae. While there are no difference among the developmental period and survival rate after Chondracris rosea rosea have eated the functional and artificial. The second artificial diet is the best that were compounded in the laboratory. There are no difference among the growth period, the weight, the survival rate and the number of lay eggs when Chondracris rosea rosea have eated the functional and artificial diet.7. The different antiseptics which have done on the second artificial diet have evident effect on the development and propagation of Chondracris rosea rosea. The result as follow: the developmental period and the weight of Chondracris rosea rosea are inhabited by methanal. The survival rate of Chondracris rosea rosea are inhabited by sorbic acid, and Chondracris rosea rosea are often defomed by it. While Nipagin has not influence.
