1 Colocalization of NPY and OB-Rb mRNA in the forebrain of piglets studied by the combination of in situ hybridization and immunohistochemistryCombination of in situ hybridization and immunohistochemistry methods was used in this study to investigate coexistence of the long form leptin receptor(OB-Rb) mRNA and neuropeptide Y-like immunoreactivity(NPY-lR) in neurons of the pig forebrain. The results shown that both OB-Rb mRNA and NPY-IR containing neurons were seen in the infundibular nucleus and periventricular nucleus in the hypothalamus, the hippocampal formation, amygdala and cortex of the pig forebrain, and that some of neurons expressing OB-Rb mRNA also contained NPY-IR. It meant coexistence of OB-Rb and neuropeptide Y in these neurons of the pig forebrain. The results suggested that leptin may exert control of food intake, energy metabolism, growth and reproduction through the NPY neurons expressing OB-Rb.2 Colocalization of SS and OB-Rb mRNA in the forebrain of piglets studied by the combination of in situ hybridization and immunohistochemistryTo investigate the coexistence of the long form leptin receptor mRNA and somatostatin-like immunoreactivity(SS-IR) in neurons of the pig forebrain , combination of in situ hybridization and immunohistochemistry methods were used. The results shown that both OB-Rb mRNA and SS-1R containing neurons were seen in the periventricular, dorsomedial, ventromedial and paraventricular nuclei of the hypothalamus, the hippocampal formation, amygdala and cortex of the pig forebrain, and it seemes that there were no obvious differents on the localization between Landrace and Meishan pigs. There were also some of neurons expressing OB-Rb mRNA also containing SS-IR, that's to say that there was coexistence of OB-Rb and SS in these neurons of the pig forebrain. So leptin may regulate food intake, energy metabolism, growth and reproduction through the SS neurons expressing OB-Rb.
