Osteochondrosis is a common articular disease in swine. Weinvestigated the incidence of osteochondrosis in 265 pigs, and observated the histopathological changes in articular cartilage. The incidence of wrist joint was 63.4%, the lesions were almost mild; the incidence of hock joint was 93.2%, the lesions were almost moderate. Osteochondrosis resulted in focal thickening of affected portion in cartilage, which failed to ossify, exposed the subchondral bone in some area. The retained cartilage was frequently associated with chondrocyte denature and death. Swollen or hypertrophic chondrocyte columns, streak and cleft, cartilage islands were showed in wax section of osteochondrotic lesion in artilage cartilage, and some of lesion was repaired by connective tissue.
