Tall fescue, kentucky bluegrass and perennial ryegrass are three most widely introduced cool-season turfgrass in China. Their turf-used characteristic and genetic variation among varieties afford the theoretic and practical base for variety extending and variety improvement. Turf-used characteristic and genetic diversity of three cool-season turfgrass are studied in the experiment The main results are as follows:1. The time from sowing to seedling of the three turfgrass is related to species. The fastest seedling species is perennial ryegrass; the following is tall fescue; and the slowest one is kentucky bluegrass. The growth speed of the same turfgrass is different at young seedling and lawn establishment While different turfgrass1 growth speed is also different at young seedling or lawn establishment2. Seeing from the whole evaluation period, the average green degree of kentucky bluegrass is higher than that of tall fescue and perennial ryegrass. All the three turfgrass have to endure two low green degree period during one-year-growth cycle. The first one is December, January and February, during which the temperature is low, The other one is July, August and September, during which the temperature is high. But the decline range and duration of the varieties are different. Leaf texture is related to species too. Among the three turfgrass, kentucky bluegrass is the finest one; perennial ryegrass is following to that; tall fescue is the roughest one. The uniformity of kentucky bluegrass is better than that of tall fescue; while perennial ryegrass is the worst As to the varieties, "Barlexas" and "Houndog V'show better among tall fescue; "Impact", "Liberator", "Total eclipse" and "Freedom II "are the best among kentucky bluegrass; "Top hat" of perennial ryegrass is also good. Comparing to the lawn establishment height of the three turfgrass, the highest one is perennial ryegrass; the following is tall fescue; the lowest is kentucky ryegrass. The density of tall fescue and kentucky bluegrass changes little during the whole evaluation period; while that of perennial ryegrass becomes very seldom during the summer. The difference of density among varieties is very small.3. As a whole, the drought and disease resistance of kentucky bluegrass are the strongest "Barlexas", "Amigo" and "Houndog V" of tall fescue show the best. "Impact", "Liberator", "Total eclipse" and "Park" are the best among kentucky bluegrass.4. The comprehensive evaluation of kentucky bluegrass is the best; the worst is perennial ryegrass. As thought about the varieties, "Barlexas" and "Houndog V" among tall fescue and "Impact", "Liberator", "Total eclipse" and "Freedom II" among kentucky bluegrass are the best The results of grey relativity analysis of the three turfgrass as follows. The wholecharacteristic behavior of kentucky bluegrass is better than that of tall fescue and perennial ryegrass; while tall fescue is better than perennial ryegrass. "Total eclipse", "Freedom II", "Liberator", "Impact" and "Park" of kentucky bluegrass rank first in the all varieties. "Barlexas" and "Houndog V" behave better among tall fescue varieties. "Top hat" is also good among perennial ryegrass varieties.5. The total DNA sample isolated from turfgrass by the improved small quantity measure is decomposed little; and the RAPD profile amplified by the total DNA is clear. The total DNA sample can meet the needs of RAPD analysis of the three turfgrass. The concentration of Mg2+, primer and template of the three RAPD reaction are different; while the other parameters of the RAPD reaction are same.6. The RAPD analysis of the three turfgrass show, the genetic similarity coefficient between the varieties of tall fescue changes very much. The range is from 0.373 to 0.932. Taken the genetic similarity coefficient 0.81 as criterion, "Bingo", "Crossfire II", "Barlexas", "Mustang II", "Watchdog", "Triplet A", "Arid III" and "Dynasty" are clustered together. Each of the other varieties constitutes to one group. Th...
