An experiment was conducted to comparing test the effect of herb additives and methyltestosterone, olaquindox additives on growth performance (SGR, FCE, PER and Feed Intake), physiological parameters (the phagocytic activity of the hemocytes and anti-stress ability) in Oreochromis niloticus XO.aureus. The objective of this work was exploring the possibility for substituting methyltestosterone and olaquindox additives with herb additives in healthy fishery culture.The experiment consisted of two periods. In the first period, six experimental diets containing four herb powder additives (1%), lOmg/L methyltestosterone, and 80mg/L olaquindox additives were used in six experimental diets, respectively. In optimal culture system, there were twenty-four tanks contained six treatments, four replicates, and thirty fishes, respectively. At the end of the growth trial, the growth parameters were tested. At the same time, the phagocytic activity of the hemocytes was test and the acute stress test in 1000mg/L concentration of total ammonia (NH^+NHs) was performed. According to the results of first period, the herb additive 4# was processed into granule and soup in the second period. Four experiment diets containing 1% herb powder, 1% herb granule, 1% herb soup, and lOmg/L methyltestosterone, respectively. At the same culture system, there were twelve tanks contained four treatments, three replicates and fifteen fishes respectively. The growth parameters (SGR, FCE, PER and Feed Intake) were test after fifty-four days. The main results can be summarized as follows:There was no significant differences (p>0.05) on growth parameters between the herb powder 4# and methyltestosterone, olaquindox. The herb 4# can be regarded as substitute for methyltestosterone and olaquindox hi growth of Oreochromis niloticus X O.aureus.The result of the phagocytic activity of the hemocytes showed that four herb powders had no significant superiority to methyltestosterone and olaquindox.The herb 1#, 3#, 4# had lower cumulative mortality than methyltestosterone and olaquindox after 6h in the 12h acute ammonia stress test.There were no significant differences (p>0.05) on growth parameters between the herb granule, herb soup and methyltestosterone.
