In 2000-2001, the main growing and development characters, population quality indices of high yield, and the density and fertilizer techniques applicated of new waxy corn hybrid YangnongOl were been studied in Yangzhou. The results were as follows:1. The new waxy corn hybrid YangnongOl was higher yield and quality, and earlier maturity than Suyunuo No.1 (CK). Its grain yield was over 470kg/667m2, and fresh ear yield was over 850kg/667m2, which exceeded CK with 12% and 14%, respectively. The plant style appeared in moderate and half-campact. With density ranged in 4560-6350 plants per 667m for high yield. The ear type was short tube-shape with white flint kernel. The synthetical taste value was better than CK, especially for waxy and sweetness. The grain contained protein 7.63% and starch 82.9% that was 4.2% more than CK. The total leave number was 19 and with 111 days growing season from sowing in the early March to maturity and 7 days earlier than CK. This hybrid has better adaptability for resistant to lodging and diseases.2. There was a significant linear correlation between the dry matter accumulated from silking to maturity and grain yield of Yangnong01. The population development before silking shoud be optimized to control the DMA at 464.03kg/667m2 on silking stage and DMA during grain filling stage should be increased. In the way of controlling LAI (3.40-4.90) at silking stage by regulating plant density, improving the total kernel number and grain-leaf area ratio as well as the diameter of stalk and root activity, controlling the height of ear-bom site, implantating stouter stem and larger ear, for the higher photosynthetic population.3. The absorbed nutritions per 100kg grain of YangnongOl ranged with N 2.85~3.52kg, P2O5 0.97-1.53kg , K20 3.18~4.55kg, respectively. At the yield of 473.95kg/667m2. the population plants were accumulated N 13.88kg, P2O5 5.50kg, K2O 15.30kg at harvest. With the proper nutrition absorption at enlongation stage, increasing the absorption ratio of K2O and decreasing the absorption ratio of N and P2Os at enlongating-silking stage, while improving the absorption ratio of N and PjOs at silking-mature stage, were benefited for gaining the higher grain yield. At the condition of suitable plant density with sufficient phosphorus and potassium nutrition, nitrogen applicated rate 13.5kg/667m with 4.5kg N as basic fertilizer and 9.0kg N as kernel fertilizer which used on leaf age 6, improved the early stage growth, contributed to stronger stalk and larger ear, produced proper population LAI at silking stage, higher grain-leaf area ratio and the DMA for higher yield.
