Trifolium ambiguum Bieb. is a long-lived perennial legumes. It was introducted from New Zealand in 1996 by The College of Ecology and Environmental Science, Inner Mongolia Agricultural University and planted in Chifeng and Huhhot. The chromosome karyotype, reproductive ways, characteristics of growth, and reproduction, nutrient materials in different phenological phases, winter resistance, and drought resistance in seedling period were analysed to understand the adaptability and utility value of Trifolium ambiguum Bieb. in Inner Mongolia. The results showed that:1.The chromosome karyotype of Trifolium ambiguum Bieb. is 2n=6x=48=44m+4sm,so this introduced clover belong to hexaploid plant.2. Trifolium ambiguum Bieb. grew better in Chifeng and Huhhot. The rate of hard seeds in the new harvtsted seeds was as high as 87%. The seedling rate could reach 44.4% when the seed was treated by physical method, and the survival percent were above 95% under drilling and compacting seeding. The whole bearing period was 120 days and growth phase was 210 days. The optimum temperature for flowering was 28.5~31.5℃ and the humidity was 40%~44%. Setting percentage was 52.3%~90.2% in Inner Mongolia but the self-compatibility was very low. Compared with Melilotoides ruthenica L., Medicago sativa L. and Onobrychis viciifolia Scop., the content of crude ash of Trifolium ambiguum Bieb. was the highest, the content of crude protein and crude fat was higher in seedling period than in later period, the content of crude fiber was lowest and maintained stability. The over wintering rate for the first year seedlings was 76.2%~82.0% in Chifeng and 95% in Huhhot.Itcould regrdu quickly after utilizing so was suitable for grazing use. 3.With continuous lasting of drought time, the seeding of Trifolium ambiguum Bieb., Trifolium repens L. and Trifolium pretense L. all displayed a drop of the relative water content, ascending of the penetrating of cell membrance, increasing of the Proline content, and falling of the relative growth rate. But the three clovers showed different in reaction velocities and abilities of reset growth. The comprehensive appraisal showed Trifolium ambiguum Bieb. had stronger drought resistance than Trifolium repens L. and Trifolium pretense L.
