The effects of different plant oil and oilseed on ruminal LCFA composition, fatty acid metabolism and rumen fermentation was determined with artificial rumen. In Exp.1, Soybean oil(SBO) and Whole cottenseed oil(WCSO) were the oil sources. 0(CK), 2% SBO, 2% WCSO, 4% SBO and 4% WCSO were continuously infused into the fermenters. The infusion of 2% SBO, 2% WCSO, 4% SBO and 4% WCSO resulted in increase in TVFA and NH3-N(p<0.01), 2% SBO and 2% WCSO treatments decreased acetaterpropionate ratio(p<0.01), but 4% SBO and 4% WCSO increased acetate:propionate ratio(p<0.01). Compared to the control treatment,a substantial increase in the content of TVA( Trans vaccenic acid) were achieved from the infusion of 4% SBO and 4% WCSO (15.19% and 14.13%, p<0.01) , but not for 2% SBO and 2% WCSO. Stearic acid and cis9, transllCLA decreased for 2% SBO, 2% WCSO, 4% SBO and 4% WCSO. In Exp.2,Full fat soybean(FFSB) and Part linted whole cottenseed(PLWCS) were the oil sources, the treatments were 0(CK), 10% FFSB, 10% PLWCS, 15% FFSB, 15% PLWCS,20% FFSB and 20% PLWCS respectively. 10% FFSB, 15% FFSB and 15% PLWCS increased TVFA and acetate: propionate ratio. 20% FFSB and 20% PLWCS decreased TVFA and acetate:propionate ratio. 10% FFSB, 15% FFSB, 20% FFSB and 20% PLWCS increased NH3-N, but 10% PLWCS and 15% PLWCS decreased NH3-N. With the increased of the oilseed ,stearic acid decreased. 20%FFSB and 20%PLWCS increased the TVA significantly(14.76% and 12.04%,p<0.01)),but not for 10%FFSB, 10%PLWCS, 15%FFSB and15%PLWCS.Cis9, transllCLA was higher for 15% FFSB and 15% PLWCS compared to that for 10% FFSB, 10% PLWCS, 20% FFSB and 20% PLWCS(p>0.05).
