In this paper, the damage and development of Asian corn borer(ACB),Ostrinia furnacalis(Guen (?)),the main Lepidopteran pest in corn in China, were made a systematic study in biology-ecology in sweet corn and forage corn. The following aspects were concentrated: The physiological action on ACB feeding on kinds of tissues of sweet corn and forage corn; The relationship between development of ACB feeding by sweet corn and forage corn, and amino acid, ammonia content of tissues of sweet corn and forage corn; Location of Ostrinia furnacalis eggs on sweet corn; Damage by ACB to sweet corn. The results are shown as follows:1. There is not significance difference in the weight of the fifth-instar larvae feeding on fresh whorl leaves of sweet corn and forage corn. The developmental time of larvae feeding on fresh whorl leaves of Nongda108 is shorter than the stage of larvae feeding on fresh whorl leaves of Tiandan8 significance significantly; The weight of larvae feeding on the tassels of Nongda108 is lower than that feeding on the tassels of sweet corn significantly. The developmental time of larvae feeding on the tassels of Nongda108 is shorter than that feeding on the tassels of Tiandan8 significantly; The weight of the fifth-instar larvae feeding on the husk of Nongda108 is higher than that feeding on the shuck of sweet corn significantly; Non-significant differences are observed between the fifth-larvae feeding on the silks of Nongda108 and the silks of sweet corn in weight, survial rate and life cycle of larvae; The weight of the fifth-instar larvae feeding on kernels of Nongda108 is lower than that feeding on kernels of sweet corn significantly. The weight of pupa feeding on the whorl leaves of Nongda108 is higher than that feeding on the whorl leaves of sweet corn significantly. The weight of pupa feeding on the tassels of Nongda108 is lower than that feeding on the tassels of sweet corn significantly. The weight of pupa feeding on the husk of Nongda108 is higher than that feeding on the husk of sweet corn significantly. There are not significant differences between the weight of pupa feeding on the silks and kernels of Nongda108 and the silks and kernels of sweet corn significantly. The quantity of oviposition feeding on the whorl leaves of Nongda108 is lower than that feeding on the whorl leaves of sweet corn, and have a significant deviation with that feeding on the whorl leaves of Jitian3. The quantity of oviposition feeding on tassels of Nongda108 is lower than that feeding on the tassels of sweet corn very significantly. Non-significant deviation is observed between the quantity of oviposition feeding on the husk of Nongda108 and the husk of sweet corn. The quantity of oviposition feeding on the silks of Nongda108 is lower than the silks of sweet corn, and has a very significant deviation with that feeding on the silks of Jitian8. The quantity of oviposition feeding on the kernels of Nongda108 is lower than that of feeding on sweet corn very significantly. The development time of larvae feeding on the fresh whorl leaves is longer than that feeding on the silks and kernels significantly. The development time of pupa feeding on silks and kernels is longer than that feeding on the whorl leaves and tassels significantly.2. The content of ammonia in tissues of corn has a positive correlation with the weight of larvae. The contents of Asp, Tyr and Phe have a positive correlation with the weight of larvae. The content of Ala in kernels has a positive correlation with the weight of larvae, while the content of it in tassels has a negative correlation with the weight of larvae. The contents of Met in silks andtassels have a negative correlation with the weight of larvae, while the content of it has a positive correlation with the weight of larvae. The contents of Asp, Phe, Lys, His, Cys and Pro have a negative correlation with the weight of pupa. The content of Met in silk has a negative correlation with the weight of pupa, while the content of it in husk has a positive correlation with the weight of pupa.
