The effects of Islet activating protein (IAP) administration on mouse growth and blood glucose, insulin, Thyroxine (T3), 3,5,3′-triiodothyronine (T4), contents of DNA, RNA in muscle were studied. The relationship between growth and metabolic index was also discussed in this paper. Part I. Effects of IAP on growth of mouse EXP 1, at the dose of 0,0.1,0.2,0.4ug IAP per mouse, the ratio of live weight gain to live weight was 51.83%, 60.66%, 66.67%, 65.09%, respectively. Compared with the control (0 ug per mouse), the live weight gain of the other three groups increased 9.83%, 14.84%, 13.26%, respectively. EXP 2, at the dose of 0,0.1,0.2,0.4ug IAP per mouse, the ratio of live weight gain to live weight was 35.87%, 36.67%, 48.77%, 38.84%, respectively, compared with the control group (0ug per mouse), the live weight gain of the other three groups increased 0.8%, 12.9%, 2.97% respectively. In experiment 3, 4 and 5, IAP didn't show any effect on increasing body weight gain.Part П. Effects of IAP on metabolic index in mouse (1) Thyroxine(T3):EXP 1, at the dose of 0, 0.1, 0.2, 0.4ug IAP per mouse, the concentration of T3 (ng/ml) was 1.24±0.28, 0.74±0.28, 0.80±0.19, 0.59±0.18, respectively. EXP 5, at the dose of 0, 0.1, 0.2, 0.4 ug IAP per mouse, the concentration of T3 (ng/ml) was 0.73±0.30, 0.78±0.08, 1.43±0.41, 1.08±0.15, 1.65±0.75, respectively.(2)Glucose: without the challenge of glucose, EXP 1, at the dose of 0, 0.1, 0.2, 0.4ug IAP per mouse,the concentration of glucose(mmol/L) was 8.41±1.12, 8.87±0.65, 9.25±0.97, 9.23±0.95. EXP 3, at the dose of 0, 0.1, 0.2, 0.4ug IAP per mouse the concentration of glucose (mmol/L) was 5.98±1.01, 6.41±1.50, 6.31±0.83, 6.56±1.27. EXP 5, at the dose of 0, 0.05, 0.1, 0.2, 0.4 ug IAP per mouse the concentration of glucose (mmol/L) was 4.92±1.95, 4.51±1.55, 4.48±1.48, 5.77±1.60, 5.88±1.07, respectively. While with the challenge of glucose, at the dose of 0, 0.1, 0.2, 0.4ug IAP per mouse the concentration of glucose (mmol/L) was 11.60±2.26, 9.37±2.41, 9.39±0.87, 9.34±1.73, respectively. EXP 4, at the dose of 0, 0.4ug IAP per mouse, the concentration of glucose (mmol/L) was 9.56±1.69, 6.60±1.19, respectively.(3) the DNA,RNA contents in muscle:EXP 1 ,at the dose of 0, 0.1, 0.2, 0.4ug IAP per mouse,the concentration of DNA(mg/g protein) was 8.65±3.71, 8.38±3.25, 8.40±1.77, 7.52±1.24, respectively; and the concentration of RNA(mg/g protein) was 25.77±4.77, 24.00±3.19, 25.67±5.82, 24.55±1.97, respectively. EXP 3, at the dose of 0, 0.1, 0.2, 0.4ug IAP per mouse, the concentration of DNA (mg/g protein) was 9.11±1.25, 8.89±0.90, 9.37±1.30, 9.15±1.15, respectively and the concentration of RNA (mg/g protein) was 27.81±3.87, 24.65±2.73, 26.49±5.38, 26.40±3.21, respectively.The above experiment results showed: (1) With the treatment of IAP, the concentration of T3 decreased with the body weight gain increasing.(2)IAP promoted the body weight gain in some experiments and the optimum dose for promoting growth of male mouse was 0.2ug per mouse; in some experiments, however, it didn't. (3) Whether IAP promoted the growth of mouse or not, IAP decreased the concentration of glucose in blood plasma with the challenge of glucose but increased the concentration of glucose in blood plasma without the challenge of glucose; and the DNA and RNA contents in muscle (mg/g protein) was as much as the control.
