Wild centipedegrass (Eremochloa ophiuroides (Munro) Hack.) collected from all provinces in the south of the Changjiang River valley in China was used as material to study micromorphology of its leaf epidermis and leaf ultrastructure, respectively, according to scanning electron microscope and transmission electron microscope. Turf quality of wild centipedegrass was evaluated at the same time. The results showed:1 .Leaf epidermis micromorphology of different centipedegrass exist certain diversity and difference, and fourteen micromorphological characteristics of leaf epidermis showed bigger variation with 21.84% of average variation coefficient. Variation coefficient of stoma density and epidermis hair density are bigger, over 20%; According to ong-way ANOVA and LSD multiple comparison analysis, leaf epidermis micromorphological characteristics of different centipedegrass material exist significant difference. According to cluster analysis, the fifteen different centipedegrass materials are grouped into four types roughly : P04,P07,P08,P10,P12,P15 and P25 seven materials are grouped the first type at 1.356; P06,P11,P14,P17,P20 and P21 six materials are grouped the third type at 1.455; P09 and P24 are grouped the second and fourth type respectively. Under principal components analysis, preceding three principal components can become representation of fourteen leaf micromorphological characteristics roughly. Density of epidermis hair on upside epidermis, density of stomata on downside surface,length of stomata on upside and downside epidermis,length of guard cell on upside and downside epidermis these six characteristics'loading are the largest, so these six characteristics are main factors which lead to leaf micromorphological difference of different centipedegrass.2.Under transmission electron microscope, ultrastructure of mesophyll cell and bundle sheath cell of centipedegrass were observed, the result showed that there are exist great differences between bundle sheath cell and leaf cell, moreover, morphology and structure of leaf organelle between all centipedegrass materials exist certain difference, but not very obvious, but the numbers of chloroplast, grana and grana lamellae of mesophyll cell these three indexes exist significant difference.3.The result of turf quality showed that P22. P23. P24. P25 collected from Chongqing growed vigorously, comprehensive assessment are best and superior to the foreign varietiesP1K PI3 and PI9. They may be thinked of as varieties to popularize. Their vertical growth are slow, and height are obviously lower than other centipedegrass, especially choiceness in texture and uniformity; leaves of P23. P2. P25 are slim and soft, texture of them are finer, appearances of P22. P24 are flat and soigne, uniformitiy of them are the best. In the aspect of cold resistance, most of centipedegrass'overwintering are superior to PI 3 whose overwintering are only70%,and only PI Is' finer among three foreign varieties.
