Soil classification is the symbol of the level of soil science, the basis for soil investigation and mapping, one of the foundations to popularize agriculture technology adjusting measures to local conditions, and the media of soil information exchange home and abroad. At present, the central soil classifications in international level are soil taxonomy(ST) and world soil resources reference base(WRB), and in national level are Soil Generation Classification(CSGC) and Chinese Soil Taxonomy(CST). This research has established reference database of soil classification according to the methods of soil classifications and reference of soil classification, on this condition developed regional soil classification reference information system, and meanwhile carried out data mining taking advantage of existent data of soil reference and expert system method, and developed expert system prototype for reference of soil classification to accomplish soil reference classification. The main results of this research are shown as follows: 1. Establishment of reference database of soil classificationsAccording to the methods of soil classification reference, in current popular soil classification systems in the world the references of soils are divided into two type, which is reference between the soil taxonomies and reference between generation classification and soil taxonomy. Soil taxonomy is based on diagnostic horizons and diagnostic characteristics, the corresponding relation between them can be confirmed easily, because classification principles and methods are the same. The references among CST order, ST order and WRB order are established in this research. Reference between CST and CSGC is a little difficult, but it is possible only the characteristic be hold, data possessed, representative be had in mind, and queried inturn. Reference between them can be subdivided into regional reference, genre reference and pedon reference. All these data has been collected. Demand analysis, concept structure design, and logic structure design have been carried out according to the methods and steps of database design, and also soil classification reference database was established with database administrator software which is Access, which included soil reference data. The soil classification reference information has been well grounded. At one time, the established database includes key information of CST and CSGC and data of soil profiles which include hubei, zhejiang, hainan, heilongjiang province, and so on.2. Development of soil classifications reference information systemOn the basis of complete database, the advanced programme language and ADO data connect technology are used to develop soil classification reference information system (SRIS). Menu user surface is well, operation is easy. SRIS can make query of reference information and typical profile data ,and has some basic functions, for example, data import, data update and data printing and so on .3. Data mining of reference database and establishment of soil classification reference expert system prototypeThe soil reference data both in soil generation classification and in soil taxonomy, including Zhejiang province, Hubei province, Heilongjiang province and Hainan province is embodied in the reference database of soil classification. Surely, Other provinces will be extended in the future. Data mining has been carried out toward regional reference data take advantage with these reference data and principle of Chinese soil taxonomy. The results of soil classification reference in the same region were find out from database. Then All the taxonomy name the generation classification corresponding had been found by the same generation classification name. The taxonomy names were described using computer language by soil taxonomy principle. For example, the Calcaric Alic Udic Cambosols Yellow brown earths corresponds ,the name includes Cambosols, so we conclude cambic possess; the name includes Udic, so we conclude Udic soil moisture; the name includes Alic,...
