Effects of nitrogen applying amount and applying methods on grain yield and quality in medium-gluten Yangmai 11and weak-gluten Ningmai 9 were studied from 2001 to 2003 in Taihu wheat region. The main results were as follows:1 . Effects of nitrogen applying amount and applying methods on grain yield in Yangmai 11 and Ningmai 9 were on the whole the same. The relationship between nitrogen applying amount and grain yield could be expressed in a quadratic curve. When the nitrogen applying amount were 15 kg/666.7 m2, the grain yield was the highest. The suitable ratio of base to dressing for nitrogen fertilizer should be 7:3-6:4 to get the relative higher grain yield in Yangmai 11, while 6:4-5:5 to get the relative higher in Ningmai 9. The multivariate regression analysis indicates that grain yield (Y) was a function of panicles per hectare (X1) , number of grains per panicle (X2) , 1000-grain weight ( X3) , as described by the optimally linear regression equation is Y=-618,46+13.8258X1+8.0619X2+8.2110X3 in Yangmai 11,Y=-647.8355+12.2443X1+8.3837X2+9.9293X3 in Ningmai 9.2. The results of nitrogen applying amount show that population time-course tiller number and LAI of Yangmai 11 and Ningmai 9 increased and rate of decrease greenery area after 0-20 days blooming was reduce with the increase of amount of N fertilization. The correlation between ratio of fertile tillers and grain yield was significantly positive. The correlation between amount of N fertilization and dry matter accumulation of jointing stage, blooming stage, maturity stage were significantly positive, whereas it was in a relation of quadric curve with dry matter accumulation after blooming.The results showed that population time-course tiller number and LAI of Yangmai 11 and Ningmai 9 decreased with the increase of amount of N fertilization. The correlation between maximum LAI, rate of decrease greenery area after 0-20 days blooming, and grain yield could be expressed in a quadratic curve. The correlation between ratio of base to dressing of jointing stage and dry matter accumulation after bloom distribution, rate of contribution from dry matter could be expressed in a quadratic curve, whereas it was in a relation of significantly positive with growth rate before jointing stage, and a relation of quadratic curve with growth rate of jointing stage to blooming stage, after blooming stage. The highest growth rate of jointing stage toblooming stage was 6:4, The highest growth rate after blooming stage of Yangmai 11 was 7:3. and Ningmai 9 was 6:4.3. The relationship between nitrogen applying amount and protein content, wet gluten content could be expressed in a significantly positive. The desire of protein content could be achieved by the method 11.25-22.5 kg/666.7 m2 of application N amount in Yangmai 11, 3.75-22.5 kg/666.7 m3 in Ningmai 9. The desire of wet gluten content could be achieved by the method 11.25-22.5 kg/666.7 m2 of application N amount in Yangmai 11, 0-18.75 kg/666.7 m2 in Ningmai 9.The sequence of protein content and wet gluten content in Yangmai 11 was 3:7>4:6>5:5>6:4. The treatments above could be achieved require. The suitable ratio of base to dressing for nitrogen fertilizer should be smaller than 50% in Ningmai 9.4. The correlation between nitrogen applying amount and N accumulation before jointing stage, N accumulation from jointing to blooming stage could be expressed in a significantly positive, whereas it was in a relation of quadric curve with N accumulation after blooming and output quantity of the vegetative organs after blooming.The correlation between ratio of base to dressing of jointing stage and N accumulation of jointing stage could be expressed in a significantly negative, whereas it was in a relation of quadratic curve with N accumulation of blooming, N accumulation of mature, jointing to blooming, N accumulation after blooming, output quantity of the vegetative organs after blooming.The correlation between grain yield and N accumulation before jointing stage, N accumulation after blooming, whereas it was...
