Qu Du Tang was composed of Radix pulsatiliae, Radix et rhizome rhei, Cortex praxini, Fructus forsythiae, Flos lonicerae and Radix paeoniae. In the present study, Limulus Amebcyte Lysate assays(LAL assay), including Gel-colt method and Chromogenic Substrate method, were applied to investigate the Bioantagonistic Effects of Qu Du Tang on Endotoxin of Escherichia coli in vitro and in vivo. Rectal temperature was measured over a period of 12h after injecting intravenously Escherichia coli endotoxin and taking orally Qu Du Tang or saline. The effects of Qu Du Tang on the tissues damage induced by endotoxin were assessed. The results showed middling bioantagonistic effects Qu Du Tang to endotoxin in vitro, the antagonism was kept untill the concentration of Qu Du Tang was less 25mg/mL. Taking orally Qu Du Tang(3g/kg bodyweight) can acclerate the elemilation of endotoxin from blood, and the concentration of endotoxin in blood can recover normal level. Qu Du Tang(3g/kg body weight) can help hypothermia induced by endotoxin recover the normal temperature. Qu Du Tang also pretected chickens from tissue damage preduced by a high dose of endotoxin.
