Latosol in Hainan was treated to observe the effect of the different soil amendment treatments on the latosol in terms of the major soil chemical property including the soil acidity and exchangeable capacity. Two-year field trial shows that: 1. Soil acidity1.1 soil active acidity1.1.1 One-year trial result shows: For 0-20 cm soil layers, the trt9 (lime 2.5t/ha), trt5 (goat manure 40t/ha) and trt!2 (filter mud 40t/ha) had better effect and could decrease the acdity very significantly; trt4 (goat manure 20t/ha) could decrease the acdity significantly as well. For 20-40cm soil layers, all the treatments could't produce significant effect against the control.1.1.2 Two-year trial result shows that trt9 (lime 2.5t/ha) and trt!2 (filter mud 40t/ha)had better effect and that the others had no significant effect for 0-10cm soil layer,whereas for the 10-20cm soil layer, the goat manure (40t/ha) has better effect than thetreatment bentonite with goat manure (trt 6, 7, 8). The low -level goat manure trt3 (10 t/ha) had poorer result but the green manure treatment had the poorest effect.1.2 Soil exchangeable acid1.2.1 One-year trial result shows that for 0-10cm soil layers, the treatment filter mud (40t/ha) had the best result and could decrease the acidity very significantly, trt9 could decrease the acidity significantly as well, no significant difference was found between the others and the control. For 20-40cm soil layers, trt9 had the best effect and can decrease the acidity very significantly, tit 12 can decrease the aciditysignificantly as well, and no significant difference was found between the others andthe control.1.2,2 Two-year trial trial result shows: for 0-10cm soil layers, no significantdifference was found between the treatments ans the control. For 10:20cm soil layers,oniy ml2 and 9 can decrease the acidity very significantly, the others weren'tsignificant against the control.2. Soil exchangeable capacity2.1 CEC &ECEC2.1.1 One-year trial result shows that for 0-20cm soil layers, trt9 can increase CEC significantly, trt9 and 12 can increase ECEC very significantly, tit 7 and 8 can increase ECEC significantly as well, and the others can't. For the 20-40 cm soil layer, no significant effect was found in the treatments.2.1.2 Two-year trial result shows that only lime and filter mud treatment had some effect in surface soil layers and that the others failed to have any significant effect.2.2 Total exchangeable base (TEB) and base saturation percentage (S%) 2.2.1TEB2.2.1.1 One-year trial result shows that, for the 0-20cm soil layer, the lime treatment produced the best effect on the total exchange base (TEB) and can incease the soil TEB very significantly, the filter mud treatment had better effect and can increase soil TEB significantly, the bentonite treatments had better effect than the treatments applying goat manure only, but the difference is not found significant. For the 20-40 cm soil layer, the filter mud treatment had the best effect and that the trt8 (bentonite 60t/ha + goat manure 20t/ha), trt? (bentonite 40t/ha + goat manure 20t/ha)> lime (2.5t/ha) and trt5 (goat manure 40t/ha) had very significant effect, no significant effect is found in the others.2.2.1.2 Two-year trial result shows that no significant effect is found in the two soillayers among the soil amendment treatments. 2.2.2 S%2.2.2.1 One-year trial result shows that for 0-20 cm soil layers, the filter mud and lime treatments had the best effect and could increase soil S% very significantly, the others couldn't. For 20-40 cm soil layers, trt9, 12, 8,5 could increase soil S% very significantly, trt? could increase the soils S% significantly as well, the others couldn't.2.2.2.2 Two-year trial result shows that for the 0-10 cm soil layer, no significant effect is found in the treatments.
