Beijing is the capital of our country, forest resource monitoring in the city is especially important. Olympic Games will conduct in Beijing in 2008, the project of "Green Olympics" put forward that forest coverage in Beijing should reach 50% before 2007, three green ecological barrier includes mountains, champaign and city cirecence isolate area should be completed at that time. Moreover, 50 big greenbelts which over 1 hm~2 and mostly be composed by arbor will be built in the city zone before 2007. At the same time, satellites towns and 33 center towns in suburb will be perfected. Therefore, it is very important that quickly get Beijing forest coverage data at real-time and show it in tridemension, because it will provide basic data and decision support for Beijing's city layout and forest ecology environment construction.This paper impersonally and scientifically gets Beijing's forest landscape data with RS image. It reflects forest number, quality and space distribution, then qualitatively, quantifiably, positioningly reflects forest resource distribution for each county. Information source is 2002 Landsat/ETM+ image and digitizing map. This study adopts RS software PCI Geomatica V8.2, studies the best spectrum band combination and fusion of ETM+ image for Beijing forest coverage monitoring, then automatic classify with software. The author of this paper gets style, position and area of forest coverage with supervise classification, then compares the classification result with that of traditional investigation method and qualitatively evaluate to classification precision. On the ground of these data, this study account and analyze forest coverage of every county of Beijing, then builds DEM with map, it can intuitionisticly ,realisticly and tridemensionally show Beijing forest landscape.The result of this paper indicates that landsat/ETM+ image is applicable to Beijing or other city whose terrain is similar with Beijing on forest coverage study. When studying small terrain land use or forest coverage, it is applicable to classification for dominating land use style. Forest coverage percent of Beijing is 46.66%, Compare with that in 1999, forest coverage percent in 2002 has increased 5.98%. This study adopts 1:250 thousand scale image and RS classification map to set up forest landscape.
