BaoShan District situated at the intersection of Yangtze River and Huangpu River, belongs to the north of subtropical monsoon climatic region and sub ~ suitable culture region of citrus in china. Changxing and Hengsha, two interior islands, have the unique microclimate circumstance because Yangtze River's water body increases warm temperature and protective function in winter.The citrus orchard, 1.6 hectare, most early to go into produce, still acquired bumper harvest although passed through the freeze test during 1976~1977. From then on two islands' citrus culture gradually developed. By the end of 2003 two islands had become the biggest citrus production base of Shanghai with 2960.47 hectares. The citrus having been massively sold to not only Shanghai market, but also Shandong Province, Northeast area of china and so on simultaneously and also began to be exported to the international market of Canada, Russia and so on since 1988. The citrus production plays a vital role in enriching farmers, improving two islands's ecology, tour and investment environment. But the level of citrus production is very unbalanced. Some orchard fall into a serious cycle of great harvest at one year but little at the next year. Most farmers ofen use the prohibited pesticide with little consciousness about safety and health. Proportion of the commercial citrus is low and the technical level is not high at the post~processe after harvest, chooseing, classing, packing and so forth. Thus all of these make it difficult to promote the overall quality level of citrus quickly, to develop the domestic and foreign market more well and have restricted the industry level and the economic benefit to be further promoted. A set of standardized technology to cultivate safety healthful and high—quality citrus is in great need. According to the actual situation of citrus production in Baoshan district, I began to reseach every main technical part from 2000, then initially summarized a set of standardized technology including quality standard, index of output and quality, design and construction orchard and windbreak, cultivation and planting citrus seedling, management the clay fertilizer and water during every stage of infancy, firstfruits and fertility, shape and shear, preventing and controlling disease, harvest and renewal of orchard ,etc.
