| Maize, as one of the most important cereal crops, takes a great part in the world food and forage supply. However, many cultivars planted wildly in our country are of poor quality which have been limiting the development of maize production. Therefore, improving maize quality becomes one of the few main breeding objects in maize breeding. Both yield and quality of common maize grains are improved by crossing high oil maize as male parent and common maize as female parent due to maize heterosis and xenia. Five cultivars which flower at the same with GY115 were selected and crossed. These combination are ZHENGDAN958×GY115,YUYU22×GY115, nongda108×GY115,FUNING99-8×GY115,9905-1×GY115. 1000-seed weight ,embryo weight proportionality ,embryo volume proportionality, oil content, lysine content and protein content of seeds produced by these combinations were measured and analyzed. The main results were as follows:Crossing of common maize and high oil maize makes the grain character improved notably. After crossing,Embryo weight proportionary increased significantly,on the average, the increase was 1.79%. The increases of the five combinations, 9905-1XGY115, YUYU22XGY115, ZHENGDAN958XGY115, ONGDA108XGY115 and FUNONG99-8 X GY115,were 2.38% , 2.25%, 1.57%, 1.53% and .24%, respectively., Embryo volume proportionality of grain increased significantly. The average increase was 1.99%,Increases of each combination were as follows: ZHENGDAN958XGY115 was 3.07% ,FUNONG99-8XGY115 was 2.68%,NONGDA108XGY115 was 2.14%, YUYU22XGY115 was 1.17% and 9905-1XGY115 was 0.52%. 1000-seed weight also increased significantly. The average increase was 38.55g. Increases of each combination were as follows: 9905-1XGY115 was 71.35g,ZHENGDAN958XGY115 was 33.00g ,YUYU22XGY115 was 29.13 ,NONGDA108XGY115 was 24.55g and FUNONG99-8XGY115 was 13.60.Crossing of common maize and high oil maize makes the seed quality improvedgreatly. After crossing with high oil maize, oil content of the seeds produced by common maize which served as female parent in the combination increased significantly. The increase of ZHENGDAN958 was 2.34%, YUYU22 was 1.38%, 9905-1was 1.14%, NONGDA108 was 0.96%, FUNONG 99-8 was 0.9%. Content of lysine increased 0.037% averagely. Among them, ZHENGDAN 958 increased 0.05% which was the most one. The average increase of protein content was 0.77%. Increases of each cultivar were as follows:ZHENGDAN958 was 0.70%, YUYU22 was 0.90%, NONGDA108 was 1.00%, FUNONG99-8 was 0.48% and 9905-1was 0.7%. Considering the improvement of properties and qualities of grains produced by these combinations, ZHENGDAN958, YUYU22 and NONGDA108 were selected.The average increase was 1.99%,Increases of each combination were as follows: ZHENGDAN958XGY115 was 3.07% ,FUNONG99-8XGY115 was 2.68%,NONGDA108XGY115 was 2.14%, YUYU22XGY115 was 1.17% and 9905-1XGY115 was 0.52%.
