P.canadensis Moench and P.elongata S.Y.Hu were impregnated for study the main factors of WPG (weight percent gain) of UF (urea-formaldehyde), based on this, the dimensional stability and mechanical properties even the microcosmic structure were studied too. The results showed that: 1 To the Poplar, there is little influence of lixiviate and impregnation time on WPG, but vacuum and impregnation pressure even their interaction have significant influence on WPG. To the Paulownia, there is a little influence of lixiviate by the benzene-ethanol, as a result, the WPG was increased by 0.68%. The WPG was influenced significantly by impregnation time, pressure, vacuum-time and the interaction of time and pressure. 2 The dimensional stability was greatly improved after impregnated. The results showed that 60% ASE(antiswelling efficient), 18.9% BE(bulking efficient) and 54.5% RWE(refuse water efficient) were obtained in the Poplar sapwood; similarly, 150% ASE, 25.7% BE and 56.4% RWE were obtained in the Poplar heartwood; 49.9% ASE, 6% BE, and 51.1% RWE were obtained in the Paulownia. 3 The MOR and MOE were improved obviously after impregnated with UF. In Poplar sapwood, Poplar heart wood and Paulownia, the tangential nail holding power was increased by 19.2%, 77.7% and 52.5% respectively, the radial nail holding was also increased by 44.1%, 74.5% and 39.9% respectively. The hardness in cross section, tangential section and radical section was increased by 23.8%, 92.7% and 43.2% respectively in poplar sapwood, increased by 60%, 356.2%, 199.5% in poplar heartwood and 0%, 62.2%, 50.7% in Paulownia. 4 The main impregnation path in the poplar is vessel, but in Paulownia is ray.
