Combining ability, genetic effects and model test for nutrient quality characters such as volatile oil, vitamin C, β-catotene, dietary fiber, solutable sugar, solutable protein , zinc, iron, magnesium, manganese, calcium, phosphorus were studied in six Chinese chive inbred lines (9-1,9-2,Nongda791,Saisong,Jiuxing11,91-2) by Griffing's complete diallel design Griffing(Ⅱ). The aim was to provide theoretical basis for further breeding in heterosis utilization and parent selection.1.Combining analysis indicated that: the inheritance of main quality characters was controlled by both additive genes and non-additive genes. General combining ability variance was bigger than special combining ability variance for vitamin C, β-catotene, dietary fiber, solutable protein, zinc, magnesium and manganese so additive effect was predominant over their inheritance. For the above characters early-generation selection was effective. General combining ability variance was much smaller for volatile oil, solutable sugar, iron ,calcium and phosphorus so while non-additive effect predominated over their inheritance .Among the 6 parents, the general combining ability for most quality character of 9-2 and 9-1 was superior, which can be used as the core parents to improve quality of Chinese chive. The relative values of specific combining ability for all the quality traits in 9-2×91-2, 9-1 xJingxingl 1 and Nongda 791×Saisong were all positive; thus, these crosses could be considered as the key cross combinations for breeding for high quality.2.Heterosis analysis indicated that:among all these characters, when hybrids was compared to the mid-parent,the ratio of positive crosses to all the 15 crosses ranged from 13.3% to 86.7%,averaged 54.3%;when hybrids was compared to the superior parent, the ratio ranged from 13.3% to 86.7%,ageraged 39.0%. For Vitamin C,beta-carotene, zinc and phosphorus, the ratio was above 60%;for dietary fiber, calcium and magnesium, the ratio was under 40%;and for volatile oil, vitamin C, solutable sugar, solutable protein ,iron, and manganese, the ratio lied between 40% and 60%.3.Hayman analysis indicated that :besides the inheritance of vitamin C, the inheritance of other quality characters accorded with the model of additive-dominant effect, however, additive effect and dominant effect acted differently in the inheritance of these characters.Dominant effect predominated over such characters as solutable protein, iron, calcium, manganese, showing over-dominant inheritance, and additive effect predominated over the other character, showing partly dominant inheritance. In addition.the ratio between dominant genes and recessive genes in all inbred lines varied from 0.674 to 3.683,which meant the number of dominant genes and recessive genes were different.Dominant genes predominated in all quality characters except iron. For volatile oil, solutable sugar, dietary fiber ,solutable protein ,zinc, magnesium, manganese and phosphorus ,the ratio was above 2.
