This research was carried out at the Key Laboratory for Modern Precision Agriculture System Integration Research of Ministry of Education, the Research Center for Precision Agriculture of China Agricultural University, and funded by the Project 863: long-distance diagnosis platform of plant diseases and pests based on network (2002AA241221).Diseases and pests in orchard is one of primary natural disaster in our country, It take on a great deal of kinds, severe influence and frequent occurrence features, which greatly affect the output and quality of fruits. The lack of effectively measures to control diseases and pests often results in poor quality, low output and high pests-infection rate of fruits.Traditional management measures have note been able to adapt well to need of fruit development. It is necessary to make use of the newest technology to manage fruit tree diseases and insect pests. Showed in research that the occurrence and development of diseases and pests in orchards are characterized by strong zone, firstly it occur in a fleckiness way commonly, then spread destruction all around fast. Its intensity of infection and the pattern of distribution is suitable for being expressed by GIS spatial distribute map.According to the characteristic of the apple plant diseases and insect pests management, publishing system of fruit tree diseases and insect pests is designed based on WebGIS. the system aimed at preventing and curing fruit tree diseases insect pests. It realized publishing timely fruit tree diseases and pests information via internet and offered spatial query, spatial analysis, expert diagnosis and forecast prediction and so on functions, which make users and skeleton management department access to such occurrence circs, spread trend, and take rational prevention measure and cures method in time.This paper is a application of WebGIS technology. The system is built on Win2000 operating system and designed with a typical three-tier B/S (browse/server) and MVC (Model-View-Controller) design pattern particularly suitable for handling complicated user-interactive circumstance, database oracle9i used for storing attribute data and spatial data. With Web server Weblogic help, spatial server ArcIMS supported by Java technology can visit the spatial data stored in oracle by spatial data engine ArcSDE. This paper offers a solution for diseases and pests in orchard and carries on a helpful exploration on cooperating WebGIS communication with diseases and pests.
