The jujube is the best species of achascophytum in our country. It is an important kind of medicinal plant, and also an ecologically and economically important tree species. With the increase in scale and planting area of jujube, the occurrence and damage due to jujube diseases and insect pests also become more and more serious year by year. The north of Shaanxi province is one of the jujube production bases of China, whose planting area and production roughly accounts for more than 75% of all Shaanxi. The main plant diseases of there include Jujube Rust, Anthracnose, Fruit Shrinkage Disease of Jujube, Fruit Rot, Brown Path of jujube, Black spot of jujube leaf and jujube witches broom. While insect-pest related-diseases include Carposina niponensis Walsingham, Ancylis sativa Liu, Chihuo zao Yang, Scythropus yasumatsui Kono et Morimoto, Ceroplaaes japonica Green, Contarinia sp., Serica orientalis Motschulsky, Sympiezomias velatus (Chevrolat) and Halyomorpha picus (Fabricius). It is a urgent demand for changes in the traditional development pattern for modern agricultural production to develope diagnostic systems for northern Shaanxi jujube diseases and insect pests using the modern technology of network information systems. It will also have important practical significance to the province's economic growth.There are three main study activities.(1) The jujube disease and insect pest diagnostic methodology is studied on the basis of analysing the basic information of jujube diseases and insect pests in Shaanxi province. This thesis imitates the expert's thought, and builds two diagnostic models using a genetic neural network and the weighted superposition method respectively.The diagnosis model based on a genetic neural network is a combination of a genetic algorithm and BP network, which uses the symptoms and features as input, takes the resulting disease and insect pests as output. We extract rules from the basic information of disease and insect pests as samples to train both the jujube disease and insect pest diagnosis models. The experimental result indicates that these two models have a good effect. The other model adopts the expert estimation and weighted superposition method for diagnosis. What is more, this model can be easily used universally.(2) Study of the WebGIS module is the second activity. This system adopts the SVG technology and AJAX technology to implement the WebGIS module, based on the client mode. This module has zoom, roaming, thematic maps display and attribute information display functions. Users can query the spatial distribution of jujube disease across China and basic information about the counties and districts of northern Shaanxi, such as main jujube tree species and temperature.(3) The third activity includes developing the jujube disease and insect pest diagnosis system based on WebGIS. This system follows the J2EE standard, implementing the display query and diagnostic functions of jujube diseases and insect pest. The Web layer, which adopts the STRUTS framework, realizes the MVC pattern. The main diagnostic model algorithm, which adopts the EJB technology, is easier to update and transfer. This system also provides query and display functions, including textual and picture modes. Users can conveniently find out the disease and insect pest information, according to their need.The implementation of this system can provide a rapid and highly effective network tool for jujube disease and insect pest diagnosis. It is a combination of information processing technology and agriculture, and also an effective method to use computer technology to study plant diseases and insect pest.
