The typical forest boundary was investigated by installing transects in Pangquangou national natural reserve. The breadth of forest boundary was defined by trend line imitated method. The characteristics of the species composition in the forest boundary were analyzed by species diversity index, species richness index, species evenness index and species dominance index. Based on the data investigated, the community structure was analyzed by Polynomial trend line imitated method, drew the scaling cumulated histogram of community age structure and tree height structure. The following results were shown: the breadth of the forest border is between 20 meters and 65 meters in this region. The forest community ecotone of the forest boundary respectively represents 4 different succession phase(broad –leaved forest phase in the initial stages of the succession, needle-broad-leaved mixed forest stages of predominance broad-leaved trees or predominance coniferous trees in the metaphase of succession and coniferous forest stage in the late period of succession ). Reflecting the community characteristics of succession series. The species diversity index indicates the single-mountain variable trend in the forest borders. During the successive procession, the strength of the edge effect increases. The community structure in the forest boundary is a trend of equal age structure or different age structure.
