In the present study, the Oryza eichingeri (2n=24 CC ) from Uganda was crossed with the cultivator rice variety, 02428, of Oryza sativa (2n=24 AA). Many monosomic alien addition lines (MAALs) were obtained from the progenies of the BC2F2. The MAAL-11 with the extra chromosome of chromosome 11 of Oryza eichingeri showing high seed setting was used to construct the introgression lines and study the mechanisms of the introgression in the distantly related genomes.The mechanisms of the introgressionBy FISH and GISH analysis, we identified many monosomic alien addition lines from the progeny between Oryza sativa and Oryza eichingeri and found the MAAL 11 has high seed setting. By analysis of the progeny of MAAL 11 using SSR markers, we found the mechanism of the introgression is happened through homologous recombination, although the recombination rate is relatively low.Construction of the introgression lines of Oryza eichingeri chromosome 11 and their applicationsIn order to detect the introgression segments, we established a set of SSR markers of chromosome 11 with polymorphisms between AA genome and CC genome. Using these markers to screen the progenies of the MAAL-11, many kinds of introgression lines were selected covering the whole short arm of chromosome 11. From the progeny of these introgression lines, we have selected a serial of genetic stocks with good traits, such as early flowering, seed shape, dwarf, etc., which are very useful for rice gene cloning and genetic improvement.
