This essay summarizes the development of domestic and overseas farming system andthe farming system's changes and progresses in Chineseone-harvest region . Also theauthor investigates the sorghum farming in the western part of Jilin Province.1. Researches of overseas farming system mainly focus on 3 aspects: first, in theplanting system, two or more harvests are in one year;second, farming timesbecome less;third, the application of high technology in farming has become ahot topic in the research of farming system.2. The distinguished feature of Chinese farming system is crop rotation system.Crop rotation system is the basic skill of keeping the soil fertile, but as thedevelopment of modern farming and the improvement of farming technology, continuous cropping becomes more and more popular. In one-harvest region , dryfield farming is the main farming and each person has more farming land. Thesowing area changes slowly and the main crops are beans, mealie and wheat. Thefarming areas for sorghum and millet decrease.3. To satisfy the requirement for sorghum and other trivial crops, how to improve thecrops' output in the limited sowing areas has become a hot topic. The essay thinksover the fact of the semiarid areas of western Jilin, investigates the farmingmethods and the output of sorghum of different field ridges. The result shows thatbecause of the effect of plant density, the individual sorghum's output of regularfield ridge is higher, which goes this way, regular field ridge>big and doublefield ridge>small field ridge;for the output per hectare, the result is big anddouble field ridge>small field ridge>regular ridge. So, under the same soilcondition, because of the restriction of density and the competition of sunshine, the plants interfere each other and the individual output reduces, but by changingthe traditional farming system, we can achieve the goal that with density farming,we can get higher output.
