Medicago falcata is rich in nutrition, of agreeable taste, and is tolerant to drought, cold, salt and alkali, et al. It is important to resolve the problems that lack of protein in feed, as wellas the grassland degradation problem. The morphological and regrowth characteristics ofthree Medicago falcata cultivars from Russian were studied, which was based on the actualityof research on Medicago falcate and compared with the internal alfalfa and Medicago falcate. The propose is to provide the evidence for selection high resistance forage cultivars and to laya foundation for further study on Medicago falcata. Major conclusions are as follows:1. The orthotropism of Medicago falcata L. from Inner Mongolia is better than the others, soit is fit for planting. Darviluya, Syulinskaya and Yakuskayayellow are fit for mixture sowingin natural grassland.2. The lateral roots of Medicago falcata distributed in the soil underground from 0 to 20 cm.Only the Medicago falcata L. from Inner Mongolia has the lateral roots in the soilunderground from 20 to 60 cm and it can absorb the water and nutrition in the deep soil.3. The distribution of the taproot of Medicago falcata L. from Inner Mongolia is equal fromsurface soil to deep soil, while that of Darviluya, Syulinskaya and Yakuskayayellow areunequal. The distribution of the taproot weight is dominant from 0 to 20 cm surface layer.4. For the same treatment, the speed of development of Medicago sativa L. is faster thanMedicago varia Martin. The Medicago falcata L. is the slowest.5. The content of crude protein of Medicago falcata L. is the highest than the others in thesame stage, while that of Medicago sativa L. is nearly equal to that of Medicago varia Martin.6. The correlation in the development and the content of crude protein is extremely significantquadratic regression, which is similar to kalu's research.Darviluya: CP = 0.3194·(MSW)2 -4.5421·MSW + 35.195 R2 = 0.8146**Syulinskaya: CP = 0.3905·(MSW)2 -5.2526·MSW + 35.761 R2 = 0.8454**Caoyuan No.3: CP = 0.6744·(MSW)2 -7.7858·MSW + 37.552 R2 = 0.8787**Gongnong No.1: CP = 0.7252·(MSW)2 -8.2807·MSW + 39.387 R2 = 0.8717**7. The Medicago falcata L. should be cut 2 times in the second growth year in the north area. However, Medicago sativa L. and Medicago varia Martin. may be cut 2 or 3 times in thesecond growth year.
