Suaeda salsa is naturally and widely distributed in the saline soils of the Yellow River Delta. In this paper the distribution and yield of wild Suaeda salsa was investigated, and high-yield strains of Suaeda were selected based on salt tolerance and lower seeds abscission. The salt tolerant threshould of cultivated Suaeda salsa in saline soils was determined through pot and field test. The cultivating technique system was established, and the improving effects on soils of cultivating Suaeda was evaluated. The mechanism of planting Suaeda salsa in improving soils was also studied. Besides, research of processing and development of Suaeda products was carried out, which promoted the economic value of the plants. The results of this study brought up a new technique of improving saline soils with halophytes, which provided theoretical foundation for utilizing saline soils and promoting economy of the Yellow River delta district. The main results are as follows.1. The high-yield strains of Suaeda salsa were selected The composition and soil texture of Suaeda community, the yields of the plants were studied by field investigation. The correlation between salt content of soils and distribution of Suaeda salsa was analysed, and 4 life forms of Suaeda were isolated and analized. By comparing the yields of different strains and cultivating different lines with seeds from single plant which has good agricultural characters, high-yield strains were selected.2. The salt tolerant threshold was clarified In germination test of Suaeda salsa in a series of solutions of different NaCl content, it was found that salt severely inhibits the germination of Suaeda seeds, and the germinating rate are significantly and...
