Study On The Biological Charactoristics And Performance Of Agropyron Mongolicum Keng Cv. Mengnong No.1

Agropyron mongolicum Keng cv. Mengnong No. 1 is a new variety which was selected from A. mongolicum Keng cv. Neimeng by Inner Monggolia Agricultural University. The growth development, drought resistance of seedling, photosynthetic characters, productive performance and quality of Agropyron mongolicum Keng cv. Mengnong No. 1 were studied compared with A. mongolicum Keng cv. Neimeng. The results showed that: (1) The new variety is tall, even, strong in tillering ability and grows fast compaired with A. mongolicum Keng cv. Neimeng;the growing and developing period is different due to different area. The growing period is about 120 days in Hohhot; (2) There were no signifinant differences in drought resistance between new variety and A. mongolicum Keng cv. Neimeng at trefoil stage, the drought resistance of the new variety was weaker than that of Nordan wheatgrass and Mengnong wheatgrass; (3) Agropyron mongolicum Keng is C3 heliophyte. The photosynthetic rate of the new variety was higher than that of A. mongolicum Keng cv. Neimeng; photosynthetic characteristic was superior to A. mongolicum Keng cv. Neimeng. (4) The average hey yield of the new variety reached 5797.9 kg/hm~2 in Hohhot, Xisu Banner, Zhenglan Banner for three years, the average seed yield was about 444.2 kg/hm~2 ,which was much higher than that of A. mongolicum Keng cv. Neimeng. In heading stage, the crude protein content was 15.89%, higher than that of A.mongolicum Keng cv. Neimeng, and the total mount of crude protein was the most, reached 1012.6 kg/hm~2, which was the optimum harvest and utilization period in theory; (5) The utilization periods of the new variety is long, it can last over 8 years; regrowth capability is common; the optimum row spacing for harvesting grass is 38cm in Zhenglan Banner.
