Allium ovalifolium Hand.-Mazz., perennial herbaceous plant, is available for medicine and vegetable, of great economic value. But studies on A. ovalifolium are absent now. In this dissertation, its biological characteristic, ecological habit, ecological environment and distribution range are investigated; furthermore, effects of temperature on bulb dormancy relieving, the physiological and biochemical changes during regeneration buds dormancy release are studied. The purposes of these experiments were to provide academic basis for protecting its natural resource, cultivating technology and promoting year round production. The main results are as follows.1. Partial morphological characterBy field investigation and morphologic observation, we know that 3~6 bulbs of A.ovalifolium vegetate usually, and a few vegetates singly. There is reticulation or network and verrucate on seed surface. The fruit is a capsule developed from 3 carpels, and its dehisce mode is loculicidal dehiscence.2. Phenophase and reproduction characterIt was found that both sexual and asexual modes of reproduction exist in the population of A.ovalifolium. Under the natural condition, the main reproduction mode of A.ovalifolium is asexual by forming tillers. One life cycle of an individual is three years. Its Anlage is established in the first year, and its regeneration buds differentiate in the second year, and come up out of soil in the ending of the next March, then bolt and wither in May or June, and then flower in June or August, at last the seeds ripe in October. The whole lifecycle ends. Although seedlings could flower and seed normally, the dormant time of seed is more than half a year, so the little ratio of seedlings in this plant community.3. The relation of A.ovalifolium and the environmentBy field investigation, we know that the distribution range geographically is very large, but the growing condition is very special, so the scale of this plant community is small, and the selection of growing condition is relatively narrow and small. The natural distribution is closely related to topography, soil, community composition etc. Moreover, the excavation of human beings willfully now is threatening survival of this plant, so it is of great urgency that protect this plant.4. Regeneration buds dormancy mechanism4.1 To relieve dormancy of regeneration buds of A.ovalifolium required a proper period of low temperature treatment and the accumulation of low temperatures showed a positive and marked effect on both the degree of dormancy relieving and the growing...
