There are about 55 species of Epimedium L. in the world which were placed in two sections, the large-flowered taxa and the small-flowered taxa. There are 25 species of small flowers, 18 species have been found in China. This thesis deals with relatively systematic taxonomic studies on 18 species of the small-flowered taxa in China, including survey on the document, morphology and form of the non-glandularhair. At the same time, the contents of icariin and total flavonoids of above mentioned herbs from different species, different medicinal parts and different phenological periods were determinded.The taxonomic researches on the small-flowered taxa were made through specimens identification and open field survey.The revision of the taxa taxonomy achieved two synonyms of E.myrianthum and new keys of their botanical morphology were provided.At the same time, an new record species to Guizhou was found.We found most species of Epimedium L. could be specified by the characteristics of non-glandularhairs on the abaxial epidermis of leaves, and the key for identification of hairs as well as photomicrograph were, also presented.Both methods provide a reliable basis for classification of Epimedium plants or herbs.The contents of icariin and total flavonoids were determined by means of HPLC and UV.The results showed that the contents of them differed among species of Epimedium L.The contents of them in E. sagittum, E. pubescens, E. brevicornu, E. ecalcaratum, E. fargesii, E. jianheense, E. wanshanense achieved the standard of quality, and the highest in E. myrianthum in Jiangkou of Guizhou.The contents of icariin and total flavonoids in E. myrianthum and the others from different medicinal parts and different phenological periods were determinded.The results showed that the same change of them was leaf>root> stem; the contents of them achieve the highest level in flower period, thus it is right to collect the leaf of the herbs between flower period and fruit period.
