Continuous cropping obstacles could decrease cucumber {Cucumis sativus L.) yield and quality seriously. Autotoxicity were one of the most important factors of cucumber continuous cropping obstacles. Up to date, report about the mechanism of organic fertilizer increasing the ability of resistance to autotoxicity is scarcity. This article studied the effects of two kinds of autotoxic materials (p-hydroxy benzoic acid, HA and cinnamic acid, CA) on cucumber seed germination, seedling growth and some physiological metabolisms. In order to study the physiological mechanisms of organic fertilizer decreasing autotoxicity, respiration, activity, amylase activity, proteinase activity of cucumber seed and photosynthesis, N — metabolism, active oxygen species(AOS) metabolism of cucumber seedling were studied. The main results were as follows.1 Effects of organic fertilizer on cucumber seed germination under the autotoxicity1.1 Low concentration CA (O.lmmol-L"1) increased of germination potential and embryo bud elongation. Comparing with CK, germination potential, embryo bud and root elongation, embryo root volume and biomass of cucumber reduced under the treatments of HA (O.lmmol·L1- -1.0mmol·L1-) or CA(0.5mmol·L1--1.0mmol·L1-). Organic fertilizer could decrease the inhibition of autotoxicity on seed germination. Adding organic fertilizer could increase cucumber germination potential, embryo bud and root elongation, embryo root volume and biomass significantly under CA or HA treatment.1.2 Low concentration CA or HA (0.1mmol·L1-) could stimulate seed respiration and seed activity respectively. As compared with CK, seed respiration and seed activity inhibited significantly under the treatments of CA or HA(0.5mmol·L1--1.0mmol·L1-) . Organic fertilizer could stimulate seed respiration and seed activity under CA or HA treatment.
