Objective To explore the effects of obesity on the serum β-arrestin2and insulinresistance (IR) in newly-diagnosed type2diabetic patients. Methods From June to December2012,30obese patients newly diagnosed as T2DM[BMI≥28kg/m2, male16and female14, mean age (40.6±8.9)],30non-obese patients newlydiagnosed as T2DM [BMI<24kg/m2, male15and female15, mean age (41.6±10.4)], and30healthy subjects as controls (male16and female14, mean age (43.0±10.8)]) wereenrolled in this study. The average course of disease is about2.0months and satified with the1999WHO diagnostic criteria of diabetes mellitus. Each patient before entering this study didnot use any hypoglycemic or lipid-lowering drugs, no serious acute infection or acutecomplications of diabetes. Body height, body weight and BMI were measured or calculated foreach subject enrolled. Serum levels of FBG, FINS, TC, TG, ALT, AST andβ-arrestin2wereseparately determined. Insulin resistance index(HOMA-IR), pancreatic β-cell functionindex(HOMA-β) and insulin sensitivity index(ISI) were calculated. Variance analysis andspearman correlation analysis were performed. Results (1) The level of serum β-arrestin2were grandualy decreased from normal groupto T2DM without obesity further to T2DM with obesity〔(341.5±14.4)to(332.4±17.7)further to(319.1±15.8)ng/L,the P values<0.05〕.(2) BMI was positively correlated with HOMA-IR, negatively with ISI (P<0.05). Level ofβ-arrestin2was negatively correlated with BMI, HOMA-IR, positively with ISI (P<0.05).Conclusions (1) Obesity is an important factor influencing β-arrestin2level and IR innewly diagnosed T2DM patients.(2) In type2diabetic patients with obesity, the level of β-arrestin2is lower and IR ishigher than that in non-obese diabetic patient.(3) The level of β-arrestin2was negatively correlated with BMI, HOMA-IR andpositively with ISI in all type2diabetic patient.
