Background:Diabetic foot(DF), which refers to "Tuo Ju in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM). can lead to high maiming and killing rate. In west medicine, the available or intervention strategy is using vasodilate and anti-infection to promote blood circulation. While in TCM we use removing blood stasis, clearing heat and removing toxicity. Both of them are difficult to make vascular regeneration. However. EPCs can repair the blood vessels and antiphlogosis. With sixty years clinical experience, our famous TCM surgeon Yongchang Zhao proposed that the diabetic foot is main caused by blood stasis and heat-toxicity. By determination of treatment based on the syndrome differentiation, he created "bu-xiao tenet" and "Zhao’s prescription", which has a good effect in controlling inflammation and improving microcirculation. Doctor Xiu’s previous studies have been shown a significant effect of the party to reduce inflammation and improve microcirculation.Purpose:By observing and evaluating the clinical efficacy of the "Zhao’s prescription" on DF patients with blood stasis, and combining with the laboratory test results of peripheral blood EPCs, we explore the mechanism of EPCs1 in regulating angiogenesis, and the potential material contact between the ECPs and TCM gas/blood theory, to enrich the basic theory of TCM and Doctor Zhao’academic thought. Methods:Based on the voluntary and random principle, we chose 14 DF patients with blood stasis from February 2014 to May 2015 in Beijing University of Chinese Medicine Eastern Hospital, as the experimental group, who would be treated with "Zhao’s Prescription" for a course of 6 weeks. And then we collected their clinical and experimental test results both 0 and the sixth week. Collected 19 healthy people, served as control, to match them. Using the statistical software SPSS19.0 to analyze those results data, and P<0.05 as the standard of statistical differences. Results:Before used "Zhao’s Prescription" clinical intervention, the number of blood stasis-DF patients’peripheral RBC and HGB is less than the clinical laboratory reference range, the FBG and HbAlc were higher than normal. And the EPCs from the patient group are less and worse than the healthy control group.By taking "Zhao’s Prescription" 6 weeks, the number of experimental group’s peripheral RBC and HGB has been increased (P< 0.05). And their HbAlc and FBG has been reduced (P <0.05). These patients’systemic and local symptoms has been improved (P<0.05). However, the change of EPCs has no statistically significant (P>0.05).Conclusions:Zhao’s Prescription can obviously improve patients’systemic and local symptoms, control the blood sugar, and increase the patients’RBC and HGB. By improving local tissues’condition of ischemia and anoxia, to slow down disease progression and promote tissue’s repairing.Whether the "Zhao’s Prescription" repair the damaged blood vessels and heal the DF by promoting endogenous EPCs’mobilization, migration, proliferation and differentiation as well as the connection between EPCs and the TCM nutrient qi/blood is worthy further researching.
