Clinical Study Of Acupuncture Combined With Walnut Skin Glasses Moxibustion In The Treatment Of Water - Deficient Dry Eye

Objective:Xeroma is a disease of ocular surface characterized by symptoms of ocular discomforts, which is the result of abnormal tear quantity or quality. With more and more electronic products are used in people’s life and work, the prevalence of xeroma is increasing gradually. Now xeroma has become the most common ocular surface disease in department of ophthalmology. Walnut shell glasses moxibustion is a kind of therapy, which can be used to treat eye disease. It uses homemade glass frame to fix walnut shells. Usually people will use Gouqi and Juhua to immerse the walnut shells. According to the literature search, that Guizhencao has a good curative effect in the treatment of xeroma. So I use Guizhencao to immerse the walnut shells, and investigate the effect of acupuncture combined with walnut shell glasses moxibustion in the treatment of tear deficiency (ATD) xeroma.Methods:The patients of treatment group came from the department of acupuncture and moxibustion in Guang’anmen Hospital, China Academy of Chinese Medical Sciences, from 31 October,2014 to 13 January,2015. The patients of control group were selected from outpations of Guang’anmen Hospital, China Academy of Chinese Medical Sciences, from 19 January,2015 to 23 March,2015.The treatment group included 18 cases,36 eyes. The control group included 18 cases, 36 eyes. The treatment group was acupuncture combined with walnut shell glasses moxibustion group, the control group was sodium hyaluronate eye drops group. The time of treatment is 2 weeks. Before and after the treatment, the patients were observed and evaluated in terms of symptom score, Schirmer I test (Sit), tear breakup time (BUT), and corneal staining (FL). Using SPSS2.0, the results were statistically analyzed by suitable test.Results:1.Before the treatment, there was not statistical difference between the two groups, in terms of gender, age, ocular symptom score, self condition score, SIt, BUT, and FL. During the treatment, there was also not statistical difference between the two groups, in terms of temperature. So the two groups were comparable.2. For treatment group, the result for ocular symptom score was significant improved (P<0.001), and the results for self condition score, SIt and FL were also improved (P<0.05), but the result for BUT didn’t have obvious change (P>0.05).3. For control group, the result for self condition score was significant improved (P<0.05), but the results for ocular symptom score, SIt, BUT, and FL didn’t have obvious change (P>0.05).4. After the treatment, there was not statistical difference between the two groups, in terms of ocular symptom score, self condition score, SIt, BUT, and FL (P>0.05).5. In terms of ocular symptom score, the total effective rate of treatment group was 50.0%, which was higher than the total effective rate of control group (11.1%).Conclusion:1. Acupuncture combined with walnut shell glasses moxibustion has curative effect on ATD xeroma. It can reduce ocular symptom, promote lacrimal secretion, and the repair of corneal epithelium.2. In terms of ocular symptom score, the total effective rate of treatment group was 50.0%, which was higher than the total effective rate of control group (11.1%). It indicates acupuncture combined with walnut shell glasses moxibustion can reduce ocular symptom, better than sodium hyaluronate eye drops.
