Objective:To evaluate the efficacy of Traditional Chinese Medicine on radiation enteritis, the research methods meta-analysis was used in the Randomized Controlled Trial(RCT) literature, for exploring its clinical value. Methods: The documents retrieved among CNKI, VIP, WANFANG DATA,CBM and Pub Med by computer, and the published literature that have not been included should be retrieved by manual. Simultaneously, the references in the searched documents were further retrieved. The Stata12.0 software was used for meta-analysis, and the criteria of assessment contain that the effective rate for the treatment of radioactive enteritis, symptom scores, the quality of life score, and the changes of colonoscopy. Results: 1. The 15 articles with 1363 patients were included, which were Chinese literature and low quality of documents. 2. The Meta analysis results: The(1) result of merged effective rates on radiation enteritis by Traditional Chinese Medicine was that the difference was statistically significant comparing traditional Chinese medicine treatment group with western medicine group(P<0.05), OR=2.86(95%CI: 2.18,3.74).(2)In the aspect of improving scores of symptoms, abdominal pain, diarrhea, mucous purulent blood, fatigue, the treatment group was better than that of control group and the difference was statistically significant(P < 0.05). The effect size and 95%CI: SMD(95%CI): 0.745(0.541,0.948), SMD(95%CI): 0.756(0.552,0.959), SMD(95%CI): 0.768(0.443,1.092), SMD(95%CI): 0.834(0.586,1.081).(3)In terms of the changes of intestinal mucosa based on the colonoscopy, the treatment group was better than that of control group and the difference was statistically significant(P < 0.05), OR = 3.281(95% CI: 1.868, 1.868).(4)In the aspect of improving the Karnofsky performance status score(KPS), the treatment group was superior to control group and the difference was statistically significant(P < 0.05), SMD = 1.096(95% CI: 0.788, 0.788).Conclusion: 1. Traditional Chinese medicine may promote the therapeutic effect of radioactive enteritis, improving the quality of life of the patients and the symptoms of abdominal pain, diarrhea, mucous purulent blood, fatigue. Besides it may be good for the changes of intestinal mucosa based on the colonoscopy. 2. The methods of clearing heat and promoting diuresis had a high application frequency and were of good effects in the treatment of radiation enteritis. And the treatments from dampness, heat, toxin, blood stasis, deficiency syndrome based on syndrome differentiation are helpful. 3. The therapy of traditional Chinese medicine has certain application value in radioactive enteritis treatments, which is worth for further clinical application.Furthermore, studying the best therapeutic methods of Traditional Chinese Medicine on radiation enteritis combining with the evidence-based medicine are needed.
