Objective: To compare the curative effects 2 years after surgery of endovenous laser treatment combined with oral administration of traditional Chinese medicine and traditional surgical treatment in treating varicose vein of lower limb so as to analyze the causes and provide guidance for clinical treatment.Materials and Methods: We selected 61 cases undergoing traditional great saphenous vein high ligation + stripping and endovenous laser treatment combined with oral administration of traditional Chinese medicine at the department of vascular surgery of the First Affiliated Hospital of Liaoning University of Traditional Chinese Medicine in 2010 and 2012 respectively. These patients were divided into two groups: traditional group(29 cases, 29 limbs) and laser + TCM group(32 cases, 32 limbs). The two groups were followed up to ask patients about the improvements in symptoms such as sensation of tenesmus, pigmentation, skin itch and skin ulcer in lesioned limbs two years after operation. All symptoms were divided into three grades: significant improvement, mild improvement and insignificant improvement. The results of statistical analysis were obtained to compare the curative effects of the two surgical methods 2 years after surgery. Results: The improvements in symptoms such as sensation of tenesmus, pigmentation, skin itch and skin ulcer in lesioned limbs were compared between two groups(all P>0.05), showing no statistically significant differences. Conclusion: Like traditional surgery, endovenous laser treatment combined with oral administration of traditional Chinese medicine is a safe and effective treatment method for varicosity. Moreover, this surgical method has the advantages of minimal trauma and obvious improvement in symptoms of varicose veins as well as patients’ living quality, thus it is worthy of clinical application.
