Objective To study the epidemiological features of splenic hemangioma and its diagnosis and treatment in mainland China during the last 20 years.Methods Combined with the reports on splenic hemangioma from various databases,such as retrieval China National Knowledge Infrastructure(CNKI), Wanfang Data,VIP network, China biomedical literature database and other Chinese database, we can find that there were 52 papers and reports of 403 cases. The gender differences, regional differences, diagnostic methods, treatment, pathological of the incidence in splenic hemangiomas were analyzed.Results There were 403 cases of splenic hemangioma reported in China during the last20 years. The male to female ratio was approximately 1.12:1.The average age was 44.69 years. mainly distributes over the East China(29.53%), the South China(23.33%),the North China area(19.85%). The patients who had no symptoms were often discovered in other diseases imaging examination. The preferred treatment of this disease was spleen resection(86.62%). Spontaneous rupture has been reported to occur in as many as 25% of these patients especially when the diameter of the tumour is more than 4 cm necessitating splenectomy as the only modality of treatment.Conclusion Splenic hemangioma was diagnosed by pathological. Ultrasonography and CT were the first preoperative examination. The hemangioma whose diameter was less than 4cm can be observed in the follow-up. As for the hemangioma whose diameter was greater than 4cm or had significant symptom should be given spleen resection or partial resection.
