Spot survey results indicate that the daily activity curve of Great Gerbils (Rhombomys opimus) is obviously a binomial distribution, which means the daily activity experiences two peaks: 10:30 a.m. and 16:30 p.m., while the activity frequency is apparentally lower at noon. The annual activity curve is a binomial distribution, with the first peak in May and June, second peak in September and October, while the activity frequency is apparentally lower in July and August. The survey research discovers that the Great Gerbils in the study area have a preference in food (descending order): Haloxylon, Agriophyllum, reed, Kalidium, white thorn, Lo tamarisk, Calligonum, Caragana, ice fog quinoa, Peganum Harmala, Elaeagnus Angustifolia. The research on the distribution of Great Gerbils'cave show that most caves are intensively located at fixed sand dunes, areas between dunes, windward slopes and Haloxylon stands. Few caves are located at half fixed sand dunes and Kalidium stands, while no caves are distributed on moving dunes, hill tops, leeward slopes and little Pearl stands. Certain food taken from Haloxylon is good for its growth and effectiveness, when the food taken rate of the branches is above 40%, it will do harm to Haloxylon growth. There is no difference that Great Gerbils would choose shoots or seed cakes from Haloxylon; The difference between the food taken rate of Haloxylon shoots, corns and carrots are significant(p <0.01), while the difference between the food taken rate of seed cakes, corns and carrots is also significant(p <0.01), so is the difference between corn and carrot. Physical mechanical control method of prevention and treatment of Great Gerbils is not satisfied. The prevention effects of bromadiolone, zinc phosphide, and C-control botox are all over 70%, indicating that these three chemicals are fairly effective in controling Great Gerbils.
