New Varieties Breeding And Digital Description Of The Ornamental Crabapple

Choosing 20 plants from 127 individuals and the existing ' Snowdrift ' which has the characters of pollination and ornamental as the main object of study, we investigated their basic biological, physiological and biochemical characteristics in order to select new variety of ornamental crabapple, and then saved them into the ornamental crabapple breeding database. The ornamental crabapple's flower, fruit and leaf color were described by computer information technology combined with digital images , so as to represent the ornamental crabapple's characteristics more accurately and scientifically. The chief results were followed:(1)We investigated the phenological phases of year, tree shape, resistance, flower color, flowering time, pollen viability, characters of leaf and fruit of the 20 plants. We expected to select new variety of ornamental crabapple, with the beautiful tree shape, strong growth, good resistance, colorful flower, long flowering period, blooming closer to apple, large amount of flower, high pollen viability, attractive leaf and fruit color.(2) Pollen was collected for the pollination in 4 areas from the 20 plants which had large amount of flower, high pollen viability and access rate of the insects, ' Snowdrift ' and open pollination were used as a control to determine the basis of fruit characteristics and physiological and biochemical indicators. The results proved that those characteristics which pollinated by the new varieties of ornamental crabapple were better than most of the fruit which pollinated by ' Snowdrift ' and open pollination, such as the single fruit weight, transect and longitudinal diameter, firmness, soluble solid content, soluble sugar content, titratable acid content, ascorbic acid content and anthocyanin content of the fruit skin.(3)According to the evaluation both landscape and efficient pollination, we bred six varieties of ornamental crabapple, which were Malus'Hongqian'(breeding code:2167), M.'Hongwu'(breeding code:2119), M.'Hongshan'(breeding code:5353), M.'Hongling'(breeding code:1379), M.'Hongyi'(breeding code:1450), M.'Hongjin'(breeding code:1539).(4) The computer information technology was combined with digital images so as to describes the ornamental crabapple's flower, fruit and leaf color more accurately and scientifically. We extracted pattern parameters of CMYK separately in the typical color region from leaves, fruits, flowers and new shoot's leaf using Photoshop CS3 , then, determined the color percentage of C, M, Y, K . The results indicated that the ornamental crabapple's color represented by the percentage of C, M, Y, K could be observed the differences between existing varieties and new varieties easily. Digital technology was applied for describing ornamental crabapple's leaf, fruit, flower and new shoot color.(5) In order to conserve ornamental crabapple resources trait efficiently, we created new database for varieties of ornamental crabapple. This database system was based on the most popular SSH (Struts, Spring, Hibernate) architecture framework, adopted Tomcat 6.0 as a server program, and established by MySQL database management system. This database provided a data platform for us to check and understand ornamental crabapple trait more accurately by its efficient, accurate and complete data of ornamental crabapple.
